I watched for only a few seconds before a man in a dark green uniform with white hair and gray streaks down through the middle of his hair sped past me. He walked over to the soldiers and spoke, "There's no need to cuff him he will be coming with me."
Thr soldiers did as they were told and stood at attention saluting the man.
"At ease men, you may return to your posts." The man said before turning to me. He gestured for me to follow him and I did so with Mason following behind closely. We walked along a dirt path that led through a makeshift village. Most of the buildings were either metal shacks or log cabins with tents strewn throughout. The whole place seemed to be built on a hill wrapped around it like a swirl. Paths led off from the main path into more parts of the camp. As we neared the top of the hill I noticed a chain link fence in front of us, behind it was what looked to be a military compound. We walked up to the gate in the fence as two geared up heavily armed soldiers approached. They nodded at the man with us and pulled open the gate. We walked through and I took in the layout of the base, in the middle was a three story glass covered building with the American flag in front, to the right of that was a bunch of long bunk houses with soldiers coming in and put of them, and finally to the left was two large warehouses side by side. The left warehouse had a drawing of gun on the front and the right had a drawing of wheels on it, I could only guess the armory and where the vehicles were kept. We approached the middle building, obviously the command center, and came up to two glass doors. The man made his way through the doors and we follewed behind into a building with a big reception area in front and two hallways heading back from it. There were few guards around as we walked down the left hallway into a room near the end of it. In the room was a desk and chair with two chairs infront of it. The room had curtains over it'd window and a few other ordinary things in it like a fern and a book shelf. The man took a seat behind the desk and we took the ones in front with me in left Mason in right. The man leant back in his seat before he finally spoke, "I have heard some things about you both and I wanted to see if you would answer some questions for me before we grt on to other topics." He said in a calm friendly voice.
"Sure what do you want to know?" I asked.
"First of all is it true that you are,"he pointed to me,"the one who killed off an entire bandit camp single handedly, the famous Tas?"he asked.
"Yes, I am the one who did it, and might I ask what is your name?"I replied.
"General James Henry, I am the leader of this camp and the commander of this base."Gen. Henry answered.
"Secondly, is this man,"he gestured to Mason," a bandit?" Gen. Henry asked..
"Not anymore, I work for the kid now. He is a lot tougher than he looks trust me and he spared my life. And just to let you know my namebIs Mason."Mason answered before I could reply to the Gen.
"And thirdly, will you be able, both of you, to live peacefully in our community?"Gen. Henry asked.
"No problem as long as you don't do something to set me off, hopefully there are no skeletons in you closet because if there is we might havr a problem otherwise no we will follow your rules."I answered for both of us.
"Now that that's out of the way lets get down to the business of where you will be living. We have a population of one thousand plus souls but room for a few hundred more. We can easily find you both a house to live in and if you wish some new clothes. Also everyone in our community must help in some way either join the army or be a farmer, craftsmen, or do some kind of medial labor." Gen. Henry said.
"Then we will both join the army and I would prefer if wr could bunk together. Also you don't give Mason orders I do, he is only to accept your orders when I'm dead or if I say its ok."I said to him.
"Ok then, in two hours after dinner we will assign you a home and give you some fatigues to wear. Feel free to explore the area and remember this people around here see you as a hero don't make a bad impression. You are dismissed."Gen. Henry said before he stood up and left the room.
Mason stood up and stretched then spoke,"How bout we go and check the place out I, and I don't know about you but I can't wait two hours to eat."
"I'm hungry too, but we should go and take a tour first."I replied before I stood up.
We walked out of the building back onto the ground of the base. From here I could see over the walls and beyond them on the left side from the road that got us here was fields of corn and some other crops that I could make out people tending them. We walked around the camp for a while and discovered that in it a church had been built along with several wells all over. We were walking along a side path towards what we believed to be the mess hall when I saw it an infected chasing down a woman up the path towards us. I pulled my spearhead knife out and flicked the blade out. The woman ran past me and the newly turned infected moved quickly, as the newer they were the faster they moved, after her but turned its attention to us. It ran towards us but when it was within a arms reach me I sent the knife into the front of its head smashing it in an.halting its movement. It went limp its blood red eyes still wide open as it fell to the ground the knife, with my arm still gripped around it, was still lodged in its head. Before it hit the ground I yanked the blade out and after the body stopped its decent I wiped it off on its back and slid it back onto my belt. The woman an back to the body and cried over it. She must of been in her twenties and wore a short blue dress. We started walking again before were stopped by her voice.
"Thank you, if you didn't put him down I would of been dead." She said while tears still ran down her face.
"No problem, sorry but I have to go."I replied as I started to walk again not even the slightest bit worried on how the man turned.
"Wait, are you just going to leave me here?"the woman asked obviously suprised at how much I didn't care.
"Yeah I am, I jusy got here today and I would like something to eat."I said after I stopped in place for a second.
"Can I at least get your name?"She asked
I turned around and spoke,"Its Tas and this bald man is Mason."
"Wait are you ....." She said before I cut her off.
"Yes I am the one who wiped out a bandit camp alone."I said before leaving her behind with embarrassment all over her face. Mason followed behind not saying a word though inside I could tell he wanted to help.
"Go and comfort her if you want just meet up with me afterwards."I said to Mason.
"No need, we don't know her anyway, she most likely has friends that would be more helpful."Mason said downing my initial beliefs.
Up ahead there was the mess hall, an extra large wood cabin with a large wooden chimney on top. There were small windows with light showing from inside and two wooden doors on the front. We walked in through the doors and were greeted by a bustle of people talking, eating, and over all being happy. We walked over to where food was being distributed by a few people wearing white aprons. They stood behind a row of collapsable table with food on top. We walked up to them but found they had confused looks on their faces as they looked me down. They must of thought the ghili suit and the knifes around my belt to be suspicious or the fact that my suit had the bandits dried blood all over it. I saw that several of the people in the room had noticed and were staring at my apparel.
"Um, hun, what is with the suit and why is there blood on it?"one of the women asked.
"Look I just got here and had do deal with some bandits on the way, its not my blood."I answered.
"So you are, Tas?"one of the male workers asked.
I sighed before I answered the question, "Yeah, I'm getting the feeling I'm some kind of hero to you guys."
"Well what you did was unbelievable, you may have killed slot of people but they would of done more damage than you can think if you didn't take them out. So would you like something to eat son?"the man said.
"Please we would."I answered.
The man put some corn, a piece of steak, and an apple on a tray an handed it to me along with a bottle of water and the same was done for Mason. We walked across the room and sat down at an empty table in the corner of the room. The room was large and could probably hold the better half of five hundred people with all of the tables being the same type as the tables where the food was and a few wooden booths in the corners of the room.
I sat down at the table and Mason sat in the seat next to me. We began eating when I heard a familiar voice emanating from someone who just arrived infront of our table. I looked up to find someone I thought I would never see again.
"Tyler, is that you?" She said desperation in her voice.
"Elexis?" I said a tear running down my cheek.
She nodded with tears starting to flow down her cheeks. I practically leaped from the table and wrapped my arms around her.
"When I first heard of Tas I knew it was you, but when word went around that Tas was here in Camp Wesselmen I had to see if it was you." Elexis said before bringing here eyes to meet mine. Our lips crashed together creating a warmth in my heart that I had lost for a time. We broke away from each others lips and our eyes met again.
"I had lost all hope that anyone, especially you, had survived this. What am I kidding,  your the one person I would expect to survive this." Elexis said before burying her head in my chest.
"I am alive and I'm here now."I said while a tear made its way down my face.
Elexis looked up at me and spoke, "Did anyone else survive, I mean ashlee or logan?"
"No, that's the reason I killed all of those bandits, they killed everyone while I was out on a scouting mission. But as for ashlee she wasn't at the camp I have no idea what happened to her." I answered truthfully."Did any of your family make it?" I asked.
"My mom didn't but I was sitting with Jayden over there." Elexis said as she pointed to the small big headed black boy in a booth eating something. Elexis had long black hair tied in a pony tail, on her face she wore glasses and had braces on on her teeth, she had a slender build and wore jeans and a plain white t-shirt. We stood there for awhile before we broke apart.
"Would you like to introduce your friend Tas?" Mason asked still sitting.
I turned my head to him and spoke,"This is my old friend Elexis she moved to Indianapolis months before the out break but we kept in touch." I said before turning to Elexis. "And this bald man is my friend and personal soldier Mason." I said as Mason smiled at us.
I brought my gase back to Elexis's but before we could talk anymore a soldier busted through the doors of the cafeteria and then locked hid eyes on me. He ran over to me and began to speak,
"Tas, your presence is requested at the front gate by General Henry we have an issue."he said
"Want to come with Elexis? "I asked Elexis.
"Sure but someone will have to watch Jayden." Elexis replied.
I turned my head to Mason,"Mason watch here brother for me ok?"
He stood up and replied,"Fine with me, I will just wait here."
Elexis called over to her brother and as he approached he noticed me. "Jayden me and Tyler have to go for a little while this man," shr pointed to Mason,"will watch you till we get back."Elexis told Jayden.
"Ok as long as he isn't weird." Then before Jayden went back he waved at me.
I turned to the soldier," Lead the way."
