EARTH WAS VERY DIFFERENT from space. Casey had never considered how warm it would be with the sun shining right down on them without any kind of regulator to keep them cool. She could feel the sweat begin to bead at the nape of her neck. Earth was also loud in a different way than the Ark. The Ark had hundreds of engines running all at once, whereas Earth was made up of leaves whistling in the wind. There were no birds, though, which made Casey nervous.
⠀⠀⠀Earth was also magnificent. Finn noticed it, too, as he plucked a purple flower from a bush and presented it to Octavia. A bright smile crossed her features, and her cheeks flushed.
⠀⠀⠀"Now, that, my friend, is game," Jasper claimed, leaning over to Monty.
⠀⠀⠀"That, my friend, is poison sumac," Monty answered bluntly. Their eyes darted to Octavia, watching as his words lit a fire beneath her skin. She panicked, swatting the dangerous thing from her hair before it could kill her.
