Later, afterwards, Lori and Esteban were walking to Prescott's Music.
"Thanks so much for the pizza lunch, Esteban," Lori smiled. "I didn't know there'd be a restaurant that allows non-service animals."
"The owner of the parlor thought would be fair to do that, so the pets won't stay in hot cars," Esteban declared.
"That's great," Lori smiled.
Suddenly, something caught Dorothy's eye, and she jumped on Lori's leg.
"What's wrong, girl?" Lori asked.
Dorothy pointed to the sky, and there were dark clouds—and it was getting windy. That meant it was time for a tornado. Lori just stared at the sky in shock, remembering how her mother was killed.
"Lori, wake up," Esteban urged. "We need to make a run for it."
"Okay," Lori said, picking up her cat. "See you later, Esteban, and thanks a lot!" She ran off.
"Poor Lori—I hope she gets home safely," Esteban frowned.
Soon enough, the twister formed, and Nancy, Nicholas, Muffy, and Bryan were ready to batten down the hatches and get into safety.
"Into the storm cellar!" Nancy urged.
"But what about Lori?" Nicholas asked.
"Let's hope she's found a safe place to hide," Nancy said.
Bryan hoped his daughter found a safe place.
Meanwhile, Lori and Dorothy could barely outrun the storm. Lori looked at the sky in horror. Since she and Dorothy were right by Prescott's, they had no choice but to hide in there.
"Let's go into the shelter," Lori said. But the strong wind blew the doors open, and one of the doors came loose and hit her in the head. "Ouch!" She collapsed onto the floor and passed out.
What Lori didn't know was that the twister had picked up the building. When the wind died away, the shop was falling very fast and landed hard. But Lori was still unconscious, and it was very quiet. Dorothy licked Lori's cheek, and she woke up.
"Dorothy?" Lori asked. She sat up and saw something outside. She picked up Dorothy, her purse, and her violin case and stepped outside—and she found herself in an amazing land with little houses, a pond, green sand, and a yellow brick road. "Dorothy, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore. It looks like we've come to another world."
Suddenly, a big bubble came flying down—and inside that bubble was either Ariel, Queen Athena, or Sophia in a purple and green dress much to Lori's surprise. The outfit was in two pieces—the purple top was somewhat similar to the one Jasmine from Aladdin wore, but the neckline trimming was a little different, and it was also like off-shoulder sleeves. The top also exposed half her bellybutton, and the skirt was emerald green.
"Now I know we're not in Kansas," Lori gasped.
"Lorelei Margaret Prescott!" Sophia cried. "Oh, you're such a big girl!"
"Momma?" Lori gasped.
"Yes, dear," Sophia smiled.
Lori put down Dorothy and the violin case and hugged Sophia tightly—for the first time in seven years, she finally got to hug her mother. Dorothy came and jumped into Sophia's arms.
"Hi, Dorothy," Sophia smiled.
"Momma, what is this place?" Lori asked.
"This is Munchkin Land," Sophia replied. "When I lost my life in that tornado, I came here and became the Good Witch of the North. In fact, the Munchkins called me because you dropped your father's new music shop on the Wicked Witch of the East. There's the shop, here you are, and that's all that's left of the Wicked Witch of the East."
