"All slaves have a transmitter somewhere in their bodies," Shmi explains to Padme

"All slaves have a transmitter somewhere in their bodies," Shmi explains to Padme.

"I've been working on a scanner to locate mine!" Anakin says proudly.

I lower my head and look away from the table, I can tell exactly where Anakin's transmitter is with my Force abilities, but I wouldn't dare tell him. No one on Tattooine knows that I'm a Jedi Knight.

"Any attempt to escape and they blow you up," I say.

"How wude!" Jar Jar exclaims.

"I can't believe there is still slavery in the galaxy," Padme says, "The Republic's anti-slavery-"

"The Republic doesn't exist out here," Shmi responds, "We must survive on our own."

"And you, Kavra?" Padme turns to me, "How do you know Master Jinn?"

"Ummmmm," I trail off.

"We met when she was a child on Coruscant," Master Jinn says, "I knew her parents well."

"Has anyone ever seen a Podrace?" Anakin asks excitedly.

"They have Podracing on Malastare, very fast, very dangerous," Master Jinn says.

"Kavra and I are the only humans who can do it," Anakin grins at me.

"You both must have Jedi reflexes if you can race Pods," Qui-Gon gives me a look.

Jar Jar goes to grab a piece of food with his tongue and Qui-Gon grabs it, "Don't do that again."

Jar Jar squeals in pain and nods, Master Jinn lets his tongue go and turns back to Anakin and me.

"You're a Jedi Knight, aren't you?" Anakin asks.

I watch as Qui-Gon tenses slightly and looks at Anakin with a calm look in his eyes.

"What makes you think that?"

"I saw your laser sword, only Jedi carry that kind of weapon," Anakin answers.

"Perhaps I killed a Jedi and took it from him," Master Jinn says.

"I don't think so," Anakin responds, "No one can kill a Jedi."

"I wish that were so," I mutter.

"I had a dream I was a Jedi once," Anakin continues, "I came back here and freed all the slaves. Have you come to free us?"

"No, I'm afraid not," Master Jinn looks away from the young boy.

"I think you have, why else would you be here?"

"I can see there's no fooling you, Anakin," Qui-Gon says, "We're on our way to Coruscant, the central system in the Republic, on a very important mission."

"Then how did you end up out here in the Outer Rim?"

"Our ship was damaged and we're stranded here until we can repair it," Padme says.

"We can help!" Anakin exclaims, "Kavra and I can fix anything!"

"I believe you can, but first we must acquire the parts we need."

"Wit nula to trade!" Jar Jar sighs.

"These junk dealers must have some kind of weakness," Padme says.

"Gambling," Shmi says, "Everything around here revolves around those horrible races."

"Podracing," I scoff, "Greed can be a powerful ally."

"I built a Podracer, the fastest ever!" Anakin says, "You could enter my Pod."

"Anakin!" his mother snaps, "Watto won't let you."

"Watto doesn't know I've built it."

"We could get Watto to think it was Master Jinn's and then get him to let Anakin pilot it," I say.

"I don't want you to race," Shmi says, "It's awful, I die every time Watto makes you do it."

"Why can't I do it?" I ask, "I only work for Watto, he has no power over me."

"The Pod's too small for you, Kavra, I built it for only me," Anakin says, "The prize money would more than pay for the parts they need."

"Anakin."

"Your mother's right," Jinn says, "Is there anyone friendly to the Republic who can help us?"

"No," I shake my head.

"Mom, you say the biggest problem in the universe is that nobody helps each other," Anakin grumbles.

"I'm sure Qui-Gon doesn't want to put your son in danger," Padme says, "We'll find some other way."

"No, there is no other way," Shmi says, "I may not like it, but he can help you, he was meant to help you."

Anakin grins at Master Qui-Gon and I can tell that my Master has mostly given in.
