She knocked on the door and waited.
Nerves were still tickling her and she shifted from one foot to the other. It was a going to be a wonderful day, she could feel it. Weekends were always the best and she looked forward to them constantly.
It was a few moments before someone answered the door, "Oh, hello, Cariba. Nice to see you again." Elias' father smiled upon seeing her. He was holding a coffee mug.
"Hi, Mr. Rabino, is Elias home?" She greeted him.
Mr. Rabino let her into the house, "Why yes, he just went to the basement a few minutes ago."
"Thank you," She said, "How is your job holding?"
He chuckled, closing the door, "Pretty good, I'd say."
She paused, contemplating her next words, and then she asked, "How do you feel about Elias' internship?"
The question seemed to catch Mr. Rabino off-guard and he stared at her for a few seconds, then he rubbed the back of his neck, "I'm not quite sure yet, Cariba. I just learned about it a few weeks ago."
"Really?" Her eyebrows rose.
"Yes, Elias hasn't spoken much of it until recently."
She frowned, "That's odd."
"You seem a bit upset about his internship."
She sighed, "I mean, its just going to be weird and six months seems so long."
Mr. Rabino pat her shoulder, smiling, "I remember when I graduated highschool. Elias is a good kid and he'll come back."
"How did you know I was worried about him returning?" She asked.
"You two are tighter than two june bugs under the sun," He laughed, "Now don't let me hold you up, I'm sure you two have an entire day of fun planned."
"Thanks, Mr. Rabino, see you!" She opened the basement door and descended down the steps. It had been a few months since she had helped Elias clean out the basement so they could set up their lab - or so they liked to call it.
Elias was seated on the bed-like couch, he looked up from his computer, "Well it took you long enough!" His grin was contagious.
"I was talking to your Dad," She set down her backpack and then she took a running leap onto the couch, "So guess what!"
He bounced with her weight but he raised an eyebrow, "What? You have the FBI on your tail?"
"Nope," She giggled, propping herself up on her elbows, "I had a job interview last night."
He looked at her, eyes narrowing, "You said you had dinner wi - " He stopped in realization and then he chuckled, "You sly girl. What kind of job?"
