Up top is the dress but keep in mind that's not her hair. ^^
Denise
"I swear to God, Denise you pick that ugly ass, red, jumper up one more time, talkin' 'bout how it compliments your skin tone I'll use this thing here to stab your eyes in!" Ava maliciously threatens, holding a mascara brush like a knife ready to plunge into my eye sockets.
I drop the jumper quickly-- you know, cause I enjoy having sight -- and instead reluctantly reach for the dress that Ava has been trying to get me in for the last twenty minutes. Shrugging off my robe I step into the off-the-shoulder black, midi, body-con dress with a long frill detail across the neckline and arms of the dress. I turn around and Ava silently comes up behind me to zip up the back of the dress, moving my hair away from the top of the zip and telling me to "suck in a little".
When she's done I turn around and give her a tight-lipped smile, still salty that she's making me go in this super sexy dress and she pats my cheek patronizingly before walking over to find me some shoes. In the meantime, I make do with fluffing my curly hair up in the mirror since I don't want to do anything crazy with it.
A buzz from atop my dressing table shocks me out of my reverie and I lift myself up from the bed to retrieve my phone that I had turned upside down on the hardwood. Looking down at the caller ID, I see that it's my father calling and immediately start to panic, remembering that I haven't spoken to him in ages. Ava sees my face and asks what's wrong but I shake my head dismissively at her before answering the call with a fake enthusiastic tone.
"Hi, Daddy! What a lovely surprise! I've been meaning to call for so long, I was just thinking about you actually-"
My nervous rantings, however, are disturbed when a voice not belonging to my father answers the phone instead.
"...Honey?" She replies warily and instantly I'm filled with unbridled wrath at the recognition of who I'm speaking too and the name she refers to me by.
"What do you want Mother?" I ask curtly, Ava gives me a concerned look and starts walking up to me but I wave her off mouthing to her I'll be fine and she nods her head silently before walking out of the room to give me space.
"Denise, please can we just talk? I miss my daughter, w-we used to be so close a-and now I-"
I
I give a bored roll of my eyes at her pitiful pleading. She doesn't deserve my time. Not anymore.
"Look, Mother. You caught me at a bad time, I'm busy right now and honestly, I'm not in the right headspace to deal with this at the moment." I answer back with a frustrated sigh dragging a hand through my hair.
"That's what you always say, Denise! Look I understand I hurt you, but I'm your mother for goodness sake, I do not deserve to be treated like this by you. I barely know how you are and what you're getting up too! I want to talk this out, and try and resolve this before it ruins us, and our family." She cries down the line and a bitter laugh escapes my lips.
"As far as I'm concerned you've already achieved that Mother. Now if you'll excuse me I have something to get on with. Goodbye." I finish curtly, cutting the call straight after without another word from her.
A tired sigh deflates my whole being as I slump on to my bed with my phone held in my two hands that sit in the junction between my thighs.
I hear Ava before I see her, peeking her head around the door, she creeps back inside and sits next to me asking me quietly if I'm alright, to which I shake my head woefully.
She sighs and brings my head to her shoulder in a side hug and we sit like that for just a moment allowing me to collect myself again for a few minutes.
