Short but important chapter (Thank you for waiting!)
Denise
"I- Excuse me?"
I ask confusedly turning my body towards him further to fully address him.
What the hell is that supposed to mean?
He doesn't reply however keeping his eyes forward, chest expanding and deflating as he seethes silently to himself, clenching and unclenching his fists around the steering wheel.
"You know what? I don't need this right now."
I scoff turning away from him and open the car door to exit.
"Denise."
His warning filled deep voice is heard from within the car as I go to shut the door behind me. I freeze, holding the door open, watching as he finally turns to me in his seat.
"Get back in here we need to talk about your recklessness tonight." He continues, looking me dead in the eyes with a serious expression on his face.
My reckless- 'ight bet.
With a sarcastic nod of my head, I slam his car door hard shaking the car momentarily and storm my way to the front door of my apartment complex building leaving him behind.
Only after I have taken a couple of steps and without even looking back I hear the slam of his car door and the locking of his car, alerting me that he is following after me.
"Denise!" He calls after me and I whirl around to face him noticing he's already caught up to me.
"I'm not going to start this with you tonight Denver. Not over this!" I state assertively despite the lethargy I'm experiencing right now. I spin around straight after but I'm stopped from moving away when I feel his arm shoot out and wrap around the top section of my right elbow.
"Well, I do want to start this. How could you do something so dangerous?!" He cries still holding my arm in his grasp.
"Get off me!" I growl, successfully wrenching my arm away from him and facing him head-on again.
"We have to talk about this Denise" He shouts from behind me and I walk off tired from this whole thing.
Not to mention the headache I'm getting that I can't even sleep off thanks to the bump on my head!
As I approach the door I see Jerry preparing to leave his post for the night. Upon seeing me he happily holds the door open for me and I give him a tight-lipped smile ignoring the steps bounding behind me and an increasingly annoying chant of my name that follows me.
I watch as Jerry's eyes flit to Denver behind me and when I finally reach him he gently stops my arm to keep me from moving away before leaning slightly into me.
"Is everything okay? Do you need me to call the police Ms. Greene?" He whispers looking over my injured state before sending a wary look back at Denver.
I give him a grateful smile and shake my head.
"No Jerry, it's okay. I'm not in any danger thank you." I assure him and walk past him heading towards the elevator.
I hear Denver, when he finally enters the building, and peep back to see Jerry staring at him suspiciously while he holds the door open for him, making me giggle a little under my breath.
Denver reaches me and tries to start his rant anew but I shoot my hand up, briefly glancing back at Jerry who still watches us curiously.
"Not now, when we get upstairs," I state firmly and watch as he clenches his jaw but nods nonetheless.
