Denise
"What are you getting on with now Ms. Greene?" An annoying and familiar voice sounds from behind my head. I choose not to answer it or even face in his direction.
"Are you ignoring me, Ms. Greene?" The voice comes again and this time I can't help the way I start to violently click against the keyboard of my innocent computer.
"Could it be that I've annoyed you, Ms. Greene?" This time the voice is closer, not inappropriately closer but still close enough to know that he'd moved significantly further into my space.
"Denver. I swear, if you don't stop bothering me, I'm gonna buss this keyboard upside your head." I threaten darkly and scowl when all I get in reaction to that is Denver walking around my work area to perch himself in front of me with a smug smile.
Ever since Wednesday, he's been coming over to my apartment unexpectedly to come and taunt me.
I stopped answering the door to him on Friday.
It doesn't stop him from talking to me from outside though.
It didn't take me too long to realize what had happened on Wednesday. I was a pawn used in a sick ruse configured between my best friend and my best... Whatever Denver is. After my interview with Mr. Manson, I had given Ms. Watanabe the information and then proceeded downstairs (with Denver still following me) to give Ava a piece of my mind.
"Nothing about your interview passed through these lips"- MY ASS! She had practically given Denver the green light on all the details about my interview and left me totally unprepared when he'd sauntered into Manson's office as my makeshift boss!
The only reason Ava Dubois is still a contact profile on my phone is that, after everything, she went from banning me from dinner to promising to cook me three dinners this month alone.
I can live with that.
"Now, now Denise, I don't think that's any way to be speaking to your acting supervisor and/or the future CEO of the company your interning at, now is it?" He teases playing with the paperweight sitting on some work he set for the rest of us interns to do. I've only met a handful of the rest of the haul and for the most part, they're really cool.
I scoff and snatch away the weight in mid-air when he flings it up waiting for it to fall back into his awaiting hand.
"You?! CEO of anything? It'll be a frosty day in Hell before someone allows your annoying ass to take over a company like this." I sneer playfully at him but with every second of lapsing silence, my facial expression drops as he sits in front of me with an earnest look on his face.
Ok... slightly weird, not going to lie.
"What? You're planning to climb the ranks until Manson gives you his seat? Well, sorry to break it to you buddy but I think that's not happening for a while." I jested trying to make light of the heavy awkward feeling in the "room" -we work in cubicles on the middle floor of the building- but once again Denver says nothing, this time with a secretive smile growing on his face.
This fool, about to test my patience with that stupid smile.
"Ok, then genius what's your foolproof plan of becoming CEO?" I huff throwing myself back in the comfy swivel chair causing me to distance myself from the desk a little with the exerted force of my movement.
Expecting that he would break into a whole spiel about working hard and achieving his goal, I had not predicted he'd start to laugh at my question so hysterically.
