Me: "Next stop, Heartbreak at the Beach!"
----------------
Y/N POV
You and your best friends were at the beach, taking this long 8-day ceasefire to full advantage. Your loving husband, Sniper, was playing with your 6 year old son, Jackson. You smiled as you watched from a distance, basking in the sun with Ms. Pauling. Soldier was cracking up after throwing a screaming Scout into the warm, teal waters.
Demo joined in on the laughter, then passing out close to shore, a bottle of Scrumpy still unsurprisingly in hand. Heavy was sitting with Pyro and Engie as they talked about the trip. Medic was...no where to be seen-
Oh there he was.
He was trying to get Archimedes away from the seagulls.
'I told him not to bring that bird.'
You looked around and spotted Spy on a lounging chair next to you girls, sunbathing as well. Then a thought came to you.
"Hey Spy," you called.
He rose an eyebrow and tilted his head slightly up.
"Qui?"
"Mask?" You chuckled.
He looked confused for a second when his blue eyes filled with realization. He jolted up and ripped his mask off, his aging, black hair flying forward with the force. He had two large, oval-shaped sunburns from where his mask exposes his face while the rest was left un-touched by the sun.
You laughed Ms. Pauling quickly snapped a photo.
"Oh merde..." he grumbled and quickly hurried back to the truck.
You relaxed once again as you faced your husband and your son, now splashing in the warm yet refreshing waters. Your eyes lidded and you dozed off, knowing that this fun trip was coming to a good end.
Suddenly, you heard a scream.
You thought you were dreaming, but Pauling shook you vigorously, waking you up.
You shot up, hoping it was some other vacationer at the beach. But you recognized the cries of pain and anguish.
Jackson.
You stood up and bolted to the growing crowd. You pushed through them, shoving them aside.
"Move! Get away!" You shouted, your heart racing.
You prayed and prayed that he was okay. Yoi finally pushed through them and saw Sniper cradling your son on the sand. You collapsed beside them, taking him from Sniper's arms.
"Medic!" He cried out.
You held him tightly, noticing a blob wrapped around his leg. You realized it was a jellyfish of some sort and cast it aside. It ripped off like velcro, leaving long, red marks on his young, soft, skin. He cried and convulsed in your hold, shrieking in agony.
"Mommy! Mommy! Make it go! Make it go away!" He cried.
The crowd still hovered as you yelled at them.
"Get help!"
A few backed off as the mercs shoved through, giving you a small barricade. Jackson suddenly stopped screaming and you looked down at him. His eyes were closed.
"Jackson?" You shook him.
"Jackson, baby? Jack? Baby, I need you to stay awake, Ok? Jackson?" You said, slightly shaking him.
"Jackson? Wake up baby," you said, trying to stay calm.
He remained silent, not moving.
"Jackson?! Baby, wake up! Jack?! Baby, come on, wake up!" You said panickly, heart pounding adrenaline through your veins.
"Oh god!" Mundy knelt down beside you, his eyes wide. He shot up ran somewhere.
"MEDIC!!" He shouted. You looked back down to your son, his body was becoming stiff.
"Jackson?!" You shook him again, the small waves brushing your legs, the sand poking your skin.
His eyes opened slightly and he looked into yours.
"Mommy," he said weakly.
"Yes baby?" You asked.
"I wanna go home," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I know Jack. We'll go home soon," you said, your eyes stinging.
You heard a sirens off in the distance and Medic pushed through the crowd, his first AID in hand.
"Vhat happened?!" He said, fear in his eyes as he ordered you to lay him down.
"I don't know! He screamed a-and became unconscious. I pulled that thing off his leg and it left mark," you said loudly, shaking from the shock and the fear for your son.
Sniper soon skidded to a halt beside you once more, holding you in his arms.
"What do we do?!" You shrieked, your eyes watering.
The sirens came closer, the crowd still growing. The waves still lapped at your legs, no longer feeling warm and welcome.
Jackson's small body looked so vulnerable. And you felt so desperately helpless. He started to wheeze and Medic finished wrapping his wound.
Jackson looked at you with his pain filled eyes and your world slowed. You focused on him and him alone. He grabbed your hand, his grip weak.
You picked him up off the ground and held him once more.
"I love you mommy," he whispered. He fell limp in your grasp and your heart dropped.
"I am sorry," Medic said softly. You looked to him in disbelief, his gaze to the ground.
"Nooo!!" Sniper shouted, swinging his arms in the air.
He lunged at Medic, hatred and anger in his eyes.
"Why weren't you here?! Where were you!?" He shrieked, the other mercs holding him back.
Your mind blocked them out as you held your baby tightly.
You looked to the sky and cursed.
"Why! Why him?! Take meee!!!"
...
That was five years ago.
It always haunts your dreams. His cries of pain. Your helplessness.
When a parent loses a child, it tears their life apart. They lose a part of their very soul. They become numb with grief and paralyzed, not caring for their life any longer. The only thing that can cure that is...
Love.
