Her Name

"Thank goodness you're awake. We're leaving" Topaz says, and I spot his suitcase. Leaving? Leaving where? I don't want to leave! I frantically try to voice these thoughts but they won't come out.

"What? Why?" Alex asks, and Topaz glares at him.

"Amethyst was attacked by someone, and we have to leave" Alex glares at Topaz, hatred in his eyes.

"You can't leave" He says, and I realize something. Alex wants me to stay. Alex, the badass jock, wants me to stay.

"Yes, we can"

"Please Topaz" I manage to get out, and Topaz turns to look at me. "Please" I beg him with my eyes. His face softens and he sighs.

"Fine"

I stand in my front yard, watching Nathan and Alex throw a football back and forth. "This is boring" I say, as Alex catches the ball.

"You're boring" Alex retaliates, glaring at me. I smirk at him and he sighs in defeat walking over to me.

"Fine. You try to throw it" He places the ball in my hands.

"I can't-"

"Yes you can. Now place your fingers over the laces like this," He puts my fingers over the laces as he stands behind me. "Swing your arm back, and throw" He says, pulling my arm up and back. Alex runs ahead of me, and waves his arms. "Throw it!:" He shouts from across the yard. I whip it forward, and it hits Alex in the face, knocking him to the ground.

"Oh my god!" I scream, and run over to Alex. I lean over him to inspect his face. "Are you okay?"

"No I'm dead" He whispers and I giggle.

"Oh well. I guess I'll just leave your body here. In the cold. With Nathan" I begin to walk away, but Alex grabs my leg.

"NO DON'T LEAVE ME WITH HIM!" He curls his entire body around my leg, and I realize I'm wearing a skirt. Without leggings.

"PERVERT!" I scream, yanking my leg away.

"Sorry" Alex chuckles, and I cross my arms. I look over at Nathan, who is staring at us with a funny look on his face.

"What?"

"Nothing"

The next few days go by in a blur, school work, and Alex. The dragon inside has always been attached to Alex, and now the human side of me is too. Thursday at school, I walk silently to my locker. Usually, I spot Alex talking to Nadia, but today he isn't there. Instead, he's leaning against the wall next to my locker. He grins at me when I get there and I give him a questioning look. Why would Alex be at my locker, instead of with Nadia, sucking her face off?

"I broke up with Nadia" Alex says, and I gasp. Not good. I'm in for some major picking on by Nadia now. Or worse.

"She's pissed" He says, and I open my locker, quickly glancing over at him. "You want to know why?" He asks, as I pull my english book out of my locker. "I left her for you" My book drops to the floor as I turn to look at Alex. His face looks serious, so I know this couldn't be some cruel joke. I search his face, wondering why he would do that. "I've always liked you, since the day you came to school. I admired how you weren't afraid to be different" He gently tugs on a lock of my lavender hair, and smiles at me. "And you remind me of someone I used to know. I used to visit her every day, until one day, she was just gone" I stare at him even longer, trying to process his words.

There is no way that he could like me. I'm the weird girl. Hell, I'm a dragon. "You... Alex I'm sorry you can't" I run away from my locker, away from Alex.

I went home from school early, claiming to feel sick. I told Topaz I would be at home, and he let me go. I walked home, knowing Topaz and Rose needed the car to get back home. As soon as I got home, I threw myself down on the couch, and covered myself with a blanket. I sat there for a bit, thinking about Alex's words. "You remind me of someone I used to know. I used to visit her every day, until one day, she was just gone"

I sit up. There's a memory here. I think back as hard as I can.

I was picked up, off of the ground and placed into the warm palms of something. The warmth made me watch to come out of my gem, and I felt the hard rock around me begin to morph into me. I lift my head, a yawn escaping my lips, whimpering when I feel pain on my back. "You're hurt" someone said, and I look at the boy holding me. I chuff at him, knowing he helped me, and rub my head against the palm of his hand. That was how I met him. He came back the next day, and played with me. For weeks we played. Then one day, he didn't come. I sat in the tall grass, crying.

"Are you alright? Are you lost?" I look up at the big green and blue dragon. A small red dragon is hiding behind his left leg, and I nod. "Come with me, we can help you get back home. My name is Topaz, what's yours?"

I gasp, tears leaking from my eyes. Alex had found me when I was little. Alex named me, and he couldn't return to Tika because of the sorcerers. I sit on the floor, crying my eyes out. I forgot him. I forgot the boy that saved my life, and my very first friend. There's a knock on the door, and I glance at the clock. School is over. "Amethyst?" Alex says through the door, and I wipe my tears away. I open the door, and Alex looks at me with sadness in his eyes. "I'm sorry if I scared you this morning, it's just-"

"It's fine. It just caught me off guard" I say, and I see hope shine in Alex's eyes. He takes a step closer, and holds out his hand. I place mine in his, and a grin spreads across his face. He hugs me, and my face gets shoved into the warmth of the part where his shoulder meets his neck. I breath in his boyish scent, and suddenly, I hear whistling. I recognise that tune. "Alex, come inside" I say, pulling him inside. I slam the door, and lock it, shutting off all the lights.

"Uh Amethyst what are you-"

"SHH! Don't talk for a bit" I say, waiting for the sorcerers to leave. Alex sits down on the couch, pulling me onto his lap. "Shh" I remind him, as the whistling gets closer.

"We're sitting in the dark though and it's making me think dirty" I slap his chest, and he chuckles a bit. The whistling stops, and then starts again, headed away from us.

"We're safe now" I mumble to myself, turning on the lights again. Alex appears behind me, wrapping his arms around me. I could easily get used to this. I turn around and look into his brown eyes, the image of his childish self still clear in my mind. He leans down a little, and I tilt my head back. His lips press onto mine, and I get lost in the feeling of his arms around me. SO lost, that I don't hear the front door open and close.

"AMETHYST!" Topaz shouts, and I jump away from Alex. Topaz is instanding there, Rose hiding behind his leg like always. Topaz is angry, because his arms are shining with his scales beginning to show on his face. "You know better than that" He says, and a little bit of green magic comes out of his mouth.

"Topaz I-"

"No. Go to your room, and you," he points at Alex, and then to the door, "Get out" Alex slowly walks around him, winking at me before leaving the house.

"Topaz I didn't mean-"

"He is a human! You're a dragon! You can't be with that boy, when your people back home are suffering!"

"Well maybe I don't want to be a dragon anymore!" I cry, my purple magic puffing out of my mouth as my tears stream down my face. I run into my room, and slam the door, shutting everyone out, leaving me alone with my tears.
