Chapter 7
“Angel, oh God, Angel.”
“What happened to her?”
“It looked like she’s been mugged.”
“My Angel, my beautiful Angel, please wake up.”
The worried voices of people swirled around in my head and I faintly recognised the last one.
Dash.
My eyes immediately flew open and I saw that Dash was cradling me in his arms and Dawn was on the grass beside me.
“Angel! You’re awake!” Dash said and I noticed that his eyes were wet.
Surely he hadn’t been crying over me?
He lent down slowly and gently placed a kiss on my forehead. I sighed and reached my hand out to him. He grabbed it and squeezed it softly and I instantly felt safe.
“What happened, love?” Dawn asked with a worried look on her face. It was then when I realised that I was back in the field where the gypsies were living. As well as Dash and Dawn, I noticed all the gypsies were crowded over me, looking worried.
“Well,” I began. “A man pulled me into an alleyway, and then threatened me with a knife and then made me drink this liquid,” I said and a tear rolled down my cheek.
Every time I closed my eyes I could hear the threatening words he was whispering to me and Sky.
Sky!
“Where’s Sky?” I said automatically and sitting straight up and instantly regretting it.
My whole body ached I noticed all the cuts and bruises that lined my arms and legs.
Dash put his arms around my body and I snuggled close to him. He started massaging my back and neck and I instantly relaxed.
“Here she is,” Dawn smiled, handing her over to me. She was obviously untouched from the man and she was fast asleep. I hugged her to my chest and breathed a sigh of relief.
She was safe and so was I.

I had no idea what time it was but I knew it was late. The bonfire was just a single flame now and most of the gypsies had resorted to their caravans for the night.
Dash and I were the only ones sitting out by the tree we were earlier and Dawn had taken Sky into her caravan. I had no idea what we were going to do but I was content lying under the stars with Dash.
“What happened Dash? One minute I was in the alleyway, next minute I’m out in the field with you,” I said, looking up to see him.
His face looked so beautiful in the moonlight as he stared down at me.
“I found you,” he stated simply.
The way he said his sentence led me to believe that it had more than one meaning.
“You were lying unconscious on the side of the road. Sky was lying in your arms, not even moving. I thought you were both dead,” he voice broke and he looked away quickly.
I looked up to him and noticed a tear fall slowly down his face. I brushed my hand quickly against his face and wiped the tear away. No boy had ever cried over me before especially one who i had only known for a day.
I had had a few casual boyfriends over the years, but they were all no use. I had also never felt this way about a boy and my attraction to him was so strong .
He looked down at me and brushed my hair away from my face.
“Stay with me, Angel. You and Sky can stay in the caravan with us. I couldn’t bear the thought of being away from you. That’s why I had to come to find you and Sky. I wanted to let you know that I really liked you,” he said in a serious tone.
I raised my small hand to his cheek and leant forward slowly and closed my eyes. My lips brushed his quickly, setting fireworks off everywhere in my body.
We broke apart and he smirked.
“I take that as a yes then?” he said with a cheeky laugh.
I slapped his arm playfully and he stood up, reaching out his hand. He pulled me up and we walked back to the campsite, with his arm around my waist.
When Dash knocked lightly on the caravan’s door, Dawn opened it immediately.
“Mami, Angel has decided to stay with us,” he said in his strong Irish accent.
“Oh my! That’s great to hear! Here, it will be a bit squishy but I’m sure you will fit right in!”
She pulled up inside the caravan and it looked quite different to earlier. The diner had been converted into a small bed and Sky was sleeping on it.
“Mami, Angel can sleep in my bed and then I will sleep in the diner and Sky can sleep with you, yeah?” he said glancing at both me and Dawn.
“It’s alright with me!” Dawn exclaimed and gently lifted Sky up.
“Wait, I wouldn’t want Sky to bother you during the night, though. I will just take her,” I say, holding my arms out for her.
“Nonsense, Angel! She won’t be any trouble to me and besides, I have raised Dash, I know what it’s like to be a Mother!” She says knowingly.
“I know what it is like to raise a child too,” I mutter softly under my breath, turning away.
For once, I just wished our mother had raised Sky and I. Dash looks over at me worryingly and I wonder if he heard what I had just said. That’s when I realise that Dawn is in her peace print pyjamas and I have nothing. Dash notices me staring and takes of his long polo top and chucks it over to me. His body was breathtaking. His shoulders were so broad and his stomach had a hint of toned abs.
“You can sleep in it,” he says, smirking.
I blush and turn away, embarrassed that i was caught staring at him.
“Um, Dawn, is there like a toilet in here?” I say with an embarrassed smile.
As she is tending to Sky, she points to a cupboard I hadn’t noticed before. I opened the cupboard door and I realised it was actually a toilet and small shower situated inside. I gave a small wave and stepped inside.
As I open the door out of the bathroom, I realise it’s now dark inside the caravan and Dawn was sleeping. Sky was in her arms and she was snoring lightly. The top that Dash had given me reached mid-thigh as I was so short.
“Dash?” I whispered softly.
He came up behind me and hugged my waist.
“Good night, my Angel. Sweet dreams,” he said and softly kissed my cheek.
“Good night, Dash. Thank you so much for everything,” I turned around and hugged him and he rested his chin on my head.
After a few moments, we broke apart and he went and sat on the couch. He motioned for me to go up into his bed and I did. I carefully climbed up the ladder and onto his hidden bed. It was double bed and he had some photos up here but it was too hard to see anything so I just snuggle under the quilt. It smelt just like him and I breathed in deeply, falling asleep.
The knife jabbed into Sky and I screamed at the man to stop. He turned to me and glared. He brought the knife to my chest and plunged it deep into my heart.
I woke up screaming and sweating, thanks goodness it was just a nightmare. Where was I?
Oh that’s right, I was in Dawn and Dash’s caravan. Tears were streaming down my face and I heard someone coming up the ladder. Dash was suddenly under the quilt with me and I sobbed into his chest.
‘Shh, Angel, it was just a nightmare,” he whispered, stroking my hair.
