So now I was stuck in detention with Lukah again, the class clown and trouble maker. What? Does the universe want me to fall in love with him like in all those bad-boy stories, or something?

He had his head rested on his folded arms, his eyes staring over at me. We were sat right next to each other, because when I'd tried to get a spot in a nice quiet corner so I could just read or do some school work, he'd gone and plopped his annoying ass right next to me. It was pretty obvious that he'd gotten himself into detention only because I'd gotten into it.

"What the hell are you staring at, kid?"

He shrugged, still staring at me. "What else is there to look at? You could always ignore me, if you wanted.. Really, you're staring at me, and that's how you know that I'm staring at you."

"Alright smartass," I rolled my eyes, "You clearly got yourself in here on purpose. What do you want from me?"

He repositioned his fluffy black head so that he was staring forward with his chin resting on his arms, thankfully not staring at me anymore.

"I don't know. I figured I'd keep you company."

"News flash," I murmured, "I don't want company."

"Really?" He was looking at me again, this time sitting straight up. "You look lonely most of the time."

"Well I'm not," I growled, "So leave me alone."

He was quiet after that, much to my relief. I laid my hands in my folded arms and at some point, I must've dozed off, because before I knew it a hand was on my shoulder and a gentle voice was speaking to me.

"Amira?"

I blinked the sleep out of my eyes and looked up.

"Are you okay? I found you here after band practice." It was... Milo?

"Oh-- Umm--" I frowned. "Yeah, sorry, I guess I fell asleep."

"You look very tired," he commented, frowning. "Well, I hope you slept a little while here. I know things aren't so easy back home."

"Yeah, yeah," I murmured, brushing his hand off of me as I stood up. "I'll be fine. Thanks, Milo."

"No problem."

"Where's that kid? Lukah?"

"Oh, he left once detention ended..." Milo shook his head. "Damn asshole. It's been quite a while since detention ended--I don't know why he didn't wake you up."

"Wouldn't be surprised if he forgot," he said. "I had to walk him to school today and yesterday because he forgot the way--can you believe that? As if he hasn't walked here alone every day since forever! Ugh... Sorry about that little shit."

"It's fine, really," I replied. "Well, see ya, Milo."

"Mm," he hummed. "Make sure to eat dinner!"

I flinched at those words. Shit, that sounded like... "U-uhm--"

"I mean, because eating some food usually results in better sleep," he clarified, laughing nervously. "Anyway--uhm, yeah--I'd better get going. See ya later, Amira!"

"...Yeah."

He rushed out of the room, but I stood there for a moment, dazed.

That was weird... Well, I guess he felt more inclined to talk to me after he spent a little while in my house?

He still never said what he was hospitalized for, anyway.

Well, in any case, it didn't matter now. All that mattered was my bed that beckoned me back home.
