dear mr blythe,

since you were so set on remaining in contact with each other as per our ventures to separate universities/colleges, i have decided to kick this "contact" off with a letter because i'm an old school kind of girl...FIRST might i add. even though it was your idea. anyway, it has taken quite some time — 3 weeks exactly — for me to settle in here at queens, but i am happy...so far so good as one would say. as you know, i am pursuing a teaching degree, and have decided to minor in literature. (with my love of books and writing and all that jazz).

apart from getting used to being in an entirely different place, the transition has gone rather smoothly; i seem to be getting along just fine with my 3 roommates (mia, sarah and april), considering it's only been a short period of time. with all of their significantly differing personalities, i find it extremely intriguing when talking to them, heading to classes, going out etc. i have been to only one social gathering and let me tell you, too many drunk people for me to handle! don't get me wrong, i love a good party and all, but WOW...just wow. the amount of intoxicated college kids that can fit into one person's house really does amaze me.

it seems to not be as hard to keep in touch with people as it had originally seemed...ya know with social media, texting, phone calls, and letters of all things! plus whatever else.

basically that's how my university experience has began and there's not much else to it at the moment. i am going to assume that your experience has started quite positively as well, and that you, mr. everybody loves me, have already regained your social butterfly status.

if you don't write back to me it will be a disappointing time and you can count on me going back to not talking to you!

sincerely yours,
anne shirley.
