Shane: 3 months laterThe blackness enveloped me as I made my way down the hallway. It was a darkness that my eyes had to adjust to. My finger tips grazed along the wall as I searched for the door, the blueprints of the entire house laid out in my mind. I knew exactly where the vault room would be, where he would have hidden her. My eyes finally adjusted to the absence of light and they took in my surroundings. I was standing in an ornate hallway lined with gaudy artwork. I stood face to face with a painted queen in a crown of jewels and smirked. I was ready to get this over with, although i knew that this was unfortunately was no where near the end of the this journey . I made my way to the end of the long hallway and found the book shelves I had come for. I fidgeted with the dusty leather bound books until I found the one that made the bookcase open up to a giant staircase. Quickly I bound down the spiral staircase, jumping over the last stair onto the floor that opened up into the giant room. Making my way to a floor lamp I switched it on and waited for my eyes to adjust to the light filtering through the thick layer of dust. There was so much in this vault but I still hadn't found her yet. Finally Something moved in the back corner of the vault catching my eye. My heart started to race as I walked passed a giant statue and saw a tiny cage covered with a velvet blanket laid over top of it. Taking a breath I grabbed the blanket and threw it over the rest of the cage revealing what was underneath, causing me to stumble back. Lying there curled up in the fetal position was Thea . She opened her big green eyes and looked up at me. She sighed in relief then closed her eyes.
"Please," she whispered " take me home."
My eyes searched her tiny form, I was more confused than ever, she looked completely different. I quickly picked the lock and grabbed her out of the cage. Feeling Thea's skin against mine again, made my heart pound even harder. I tucked her under my arms and bound up the stairs back into the darkness of the house. I made my way back through the house, the crisp early spring air whipped around us as we stepped out of the side door leading to our freedom.
Her tiny unconscious body began to shiver as we entered the woods, I was too close to the car to stop and cover her now, but I picked up the pace. I opened the passenger door laid her in the seat covering her with my leather jacket. Sliding into the driver seat I started the car and sped off. I drove to our safe house about 60 miles away, the entire way asking myself why I'd allowed this to happen. Why I'd let her into my world knowing this could happen. I had been miserable these past months but nothing compared to the feeling I felt when I saw her in that cage. The anger and drive to find her all came crashing down and nothing but pain remained. I pulled into the garage and sat there for a moment staring Into the darkness again. This wasn't supposed to happen, not to Thea, the best human I knew. I feared this would change her forever and that wasn't what I wanted after I had just got her back in my life.
I got out and opened her door. She was still unconscious so I lifted her up into my arms and carried her through the door. I knew our friends were waiting upstairs but i was unsure of how the reunion would go, so much had changed in these few months. I carried her to the top of the stairs and opened the door.
Everyone stood at the sight of the two of us. Harley covered her mouth and made a whimpering noise before she turned and ran from the room. Finn didn't move but Hampton did. I knew He and Thea had grown close, they had become really good friends. I saw the pain I felt in my chest mirrored in face. My friends loved her as I did, just differently and for that I'd forever be grateful. Hampton used two hands trying to hold her head up as it dangled over my arm. I knew the moment he felt enough warmth from her head reassuring himself that she was alive.
Finn was the first to speak."Harley we need you, we're gonna need to wash her off before we can do anything about her wounds, she'd want you to do that more than me or Ham." he yelled
"Finn LOOK at her!" Harley screamed and everyone flinched as we all looked at Thea
"What is a SHOWER gonna do for her? She needs a HOSPITAL!"
She wasn't wrong. She probably did need a hospital but we couldn't risk that right now. I cleared my throat
"Ham, go get the first aid stuff, Finn make her some soup I'll take care of cleaning her up. We can't stay here long we leave first thing in the morning."
No one said anything else as they all started to do as I told them and Harley just left the room again.
