"No I can't be, it's too early." Millie said and tried to sit up.
"Millie I need you to stay still. You're right it is early and that means you could be at risk." Baylee said.
"Our baby is at risk!" Millie growled.
"If you lay still it'll be less of a risk." Baylee said. Millie began crying. Baylee held her. "I know Mills... I'm sorry but you have to listen to me even though this is scary." Baylee calmly spoke. Millie gently laid down still crying.
"I have to gather some stuff, if you need me you yell okay?" Baylee said. Millie nodded and gripped on the covers. Baylee quickly left and gathered warm water, towels, rags, water bottles, and anything else she thought she might need. She came back in and closed up the large tent. Her parents waited outside. Baylee came over and held Millie's hand. Millie gripped tight on Baylee's hand.
"You ok?" Baylee asked before realizing Millie was in too much pain to speak. She clenched her eyes shut tight and had her teeth gritted. Baylee sat up behind her and when the contraction ended Millie was gasping for air.
"I need to stand, I need movement-" Millie breathed. Baylee stood and lifted Millie who could hardly function. Millie held tight onto Baylee as the pain increased. She just let Baylee hold her and sway back and fourth as long as she could.
"I- it's coming-" Millie began crying as the head tore her walls as it began poking out of her lower. Baylee sat her on the bed and pushed her legs apart.
"Babe can you lay?" Baylee asked. Millie laid and gripped on the sheets. She panted and sobbed. "The head is almost out Mills, you're doing good." Baylee cooed.
Millie screamed out as she pushed for dear life.
Darkness.
Her world had gone black.
"Baylee?!" Millie shot up unsure of where she was.
"Sh sh sh I'm here." Baylee's familiar voice came from her left. Millie went to reach for her when a pain stung at her arm. An IV? She looked back at Baylee who looked rough. "Baby?" Millie began to panic. Baylee's arms went around her.
"I'm sorry Mills- I am so sorry-" Baylee said and in that moment Millie knew she'd failed. She hugged Baylee tight as she began sobbing. Baylee's eyes leaked as Millie's smaller body shook with sadness into her. Once Millie was cleared from the hospital they went home back to New York. The pair hadn't spoken nearly at all. Millie's lower had been torn from birth and she was now sitting in the bed, her lower body under the covers. Baylee came in, she had been at work.
Baylee began changing into normal clothes. She finished then came and sat on the bed. Millie was blankly staring straight ahead like she had been every day. Baylee took her hand.
"Why don't we go get some food?" Baylee said.
"How can you stand to even look at me?" Millie said and pulled her hand away.
"You're my girlfriend and I love you what do you mean?" Baylee said.
"I failed y-" Millie began but Baylee cut her off.
"No. Don't... don't even say that. It isn't true. You failed nobody." Baylee said. Millie's wet eyes met Baylee's.
"How can you not put me back on the street-" Millie broke. She began bawling and Baylee was quick to hold her tight.
"No- no Millie. Baby I'm not mad at you. How could I ever be mad at you? Sure I'm sad but not at you. Mills, it was no one's fault okay? And put you back on the street? You're not an object babe. You're my Millie and I love you no matter what happens to us." Baylee said.
"I'm sorry-" Millie choked up.
"Millie, I would give up everything I ever had up if it meant I could have you and- I'm sorry you didn't feel that or know that. That's my fault." Baylee said.
"You promise you'll never leave?" Millie sniffled.
"I promise. And I also promise one day, we can try again if you want to. We can have as many kids as you want to." Baylee said and rubbed a hand over Millie's belly. Millie held Baylee's hand on her belly.
"I love you." Millie sniffled.
"I love you too Mills. I love you too." Baylee said.
Months passed and became a year. The pair now had a house outside the city. Baylee had turned eighteen and Millie was almost eighteen too. Baylee was still a doctor and Millie had a small store a few miles from their home where she sold clothes and was rather successful.
The pair's relationship was stronger than ever but even though time had passed Millie was still scarred a bit. Baylee hadn't tried to get in her once and Millie knew it was because she didn't want to give Millie ptsd but part of Millie told her it was because Baylee didn't want kids with her. She knew it was a lie but she let it manifest itself in her.
