"So how did you end up being a hooker?" Stacy said.
"It wasn't a personal choice." Millie said back.
"Hm. Will you be at the Christmas Party? I'm assuming Baylee invited you." Stacy said putting the wrap away. The truth was Baylee hadn't been invited yet, her invitation was at home in the mail but when would she even go home again?
"No I don't think I will be." Millie said.
"Oh.. sorry I just assumed she invited you. Anyways I'll be back around lunch to check on you. If you need anything there is a button in the side of your bed just buzz it." Stacy said and left. Millie's heart hurt. Baylee hadn't invited her to anything.. Baylee probably didn't even really like her the way Millie did. Around an hour later Millie heard the door open.
"Heya." Baylee came in grinning. She had a wheelchair with her.
"Hey." Millie smiled as her mood instantly got better.
"I figured you might wanna get out. Also I know it's stupid but you have to wear this." Baylee said holding up a hospital gown. Baylee helped Millie sit up. Baylee handed Millie clean under garments and the gown and turned around.
"How has your day been?" Baylee asked.
"Miserable. Uneventful. Boring." Millie said.
"Well hopefully we can change that." Baylee said.
"How has your day been?" Millie asked as she changed.
"Interesting, this guy had a tumor in his like digestive system area and it was huge but it's out now which is good. Sorry I am ranting." Baylee said.
"No no that's interesting. Plus I like listening to you. Done." Millie said. Baylee turned around and Millie put her own hair in a pony tail on the back of her head in the center. Baylee noticed Millie had hair right in front of her ears that fell loose, she was beautiful even in such bad shape.
"Alright bare with me." Baylee said as she lifted Millie as gentle as possible and set her in the chair. "You good?" Baylee asked.
"I'm good." Millie smiled. Baylee grinned a toothy grin and then grabbed a blanket from home off the bed. She pushed it behind Millie and then wrapped it around her. Baylee hopped down and put socks on Millie's feet. They were red, white, and green striped Christmas socks that were fuzzy and warm.
"Now you wont be too cold." Baylee smiled. She began wheeling she and Millie out of the room and to the elevator.
"Don't have too much fun Barnes." a man in scrubs said on the way out.
"Watch me!" Baylee laughed and entered the elevator. That was when Millie noticed Baylee's name tag.
"Doctor Barnes hm?" Millie smirked.
"At your service." Baylee said and they laughed. The elevator opened and the two wheeled out.
It was cold but Millie was pretty warm. Baylee brought them to a café.
"Ay Baylee!" A guy at the bar smiled.
"Hey Henry." Baylee said and wheeled she and Millie to a table. She put the chair at another table and rolled Millie in than went on the other side which was a booth and sat.
"You're just little miss social aren't you." Millie laughed.
"No! I just know.. like everyone." Baylee laughed. Millie did too. They ate and talked for a while.
"So baby names... got any yet?" Baylee asked.
"Nooo. I haven't been putting any thought into that yet." Millie said. Baylee nodded.
"Are you excited at all?" Baylee asked.
"More nervous than excited." Millie said.
"Makes since." Baylee said. "Have you ever...?" Baylee trailed off.
"No I have never had a baby. The company provides protection. I don't know when that slip up happened nor did I know I was pregnant." Millie said. Baylee nodded.
"I didn't mean to offend you if I did. I just wanted to know." Baylee said.
"As long as you didn't mean to hurt me." Millie grinned.
"I would never." Baylee smirked.
"I've heard that one before." Millie said.
"Yeah well you haven't heard it from me until now." Baylee smiled. Millie rolled her eyes and grinned. "We have to head back in like ten minutes so what do you wanna talk about?" Baylee asked.
"You. I live with you now but hardly know anything about you. Life summary?" Millie smiled. Baylee sighed.
"Gosh.." Baylee grinned. "Okay well, when I was ten my mother and father split. Surprisingly they both handled it well and both took care of me just fine. They both are remarried and we all get together on holidays. They live in North Dakota." Baylee said.
"All of them?" Millie asked.
"All of them." Baylee smiled.
"So how did you end up in New York?" Millie asked.
"School. And then I started a job at the hospital and didn't think anything of it but it kind of evolved into what I've got today. I graduated school and ended up staying here. I fly out for holidays." Baylee shrugged and grinned. "City most of the year and farm on the holidays." Baylee said.
"That's really cool." Millie said.
"What about you Mills, where did you grow up?" Baylee asked.
"Here. Well I lived in Maine before I ditched and Butch found me. He was... he wasn't evil at first but I think it was only to get my trust." Millie said.
"Probably. Why did you ditch home?" Baylee asked.
"I was a dumb eleven year old. Dad was a drunk and mom screamed all the time so I left." Millie explained.
"I mean makes since." Baylee said.
"So if you have two families, who funded you like school wise and stuff?" Millie asked.
"Myself. I have three older brothers and two of the three do nothing but ask for money. Which is one of the reasons I actually moved. I paid everything except my first month at the apartment. My biological parents split that and paid. My other older brother pays for his own shit too." Baylee said with a grin.
"That's awesome." Millie laughed. "I'm going to have to figure out how to work to help pay rent." Millie said.
"No. You don't have to do that." Baylee said.
"Yes I do." Millie argued. Baylee got up and began wheeling Millie out.
"Jokes on you, you can't even get up." Baylee teased and wheeled back to the hospital at a high speed. Millie held on tight and laughed as they sped back.
