The fellowship stands at the base of the mountain beside a lake.

Gimli exclaims in awe, "The walls of Moria!"

As night falls the group rests beside the lake. Gimli and Gandalf can be seen tapping along the wall as Boromir leans on the rock wall beside him. Frodo's foot slips into the lake but he quickly pulls it out fearing as to what the contents of the lake may be. Legolas sits with his back to the wall and I fall asleep beside him with my head on his shoulder. Legolas lifts his arm to put it around me, the two of us had become quite the pair, it is comforting to be with another elf.

Alarms sound as people rush around me. I was only 10 and I couldn't figure out what was going on. My brother rushed by and picked me up, placing me on his back, we rushed to a group of other ellons and elleths who were not yet of age. "Hurry!" he calls to them, "We must get the King and make for the mountain paths!"

We rush forward my brother leading the group as we turn corner after corner. The cries and screams of battle could be heard in the distance where the rest of out kingdom was fighting against Sauron's armies.

Turning the final corner we find the King carrying a bag full of his books of healing. "Aran," I call towards him. It is relieving to see my mentor, he was the other healer of our race and had been teaching me all he knew. It was an honour to be a healer as there were only ever two at a time graced with the healing gift of the Anardil elves.

"Karonya!" he calls breathing a sigh of relief seeing me safe. Turning to my brother he tells him, "We must go and hope the others can fend of his forces. We'll meet the survivors at Edhellon."

A cold breeze blows past the companions causing me to shiver and cuddle closer to Legolas as I start to wake up. In the background I can hear Gandalf speaking, "Fennas Nogothrim, lasto beth lammen. Doorway of the Dwarf-folk, listen to the word of my tongue."

Pippin stands up besides Merry, peering curiously at Gandalf, "Nothing's happening."

Gandalf glares at Pippin annoyed, before turning and pushing on the doors in front of him. "I once knew every spell in all the tongues of Elves, Men, and Orcs."

"What are you going to do then?"

Gandalf glares at the hobbit again, "Knock your head against these doors, Peregrin Took! And if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will try to find the opening words."

I pull away from Legolas, fully waking up, "Who's hurting Pip? I'm not sure I can allow that."

Gandalf turns and continues mumbling spells and words in attempts to open the door. Pippin turns to smile and thank me before noticing the arm the archer has around me. "Well, what do we have here? Are the elves making a move on each other, " he turns to nudge Merry in the ribs, "Merry, Merry look! The elves are snuggling."

I quickly pull away  to sit a couple feet away from Legolas, "What no? I just needed a pillow. Why would I ever make a move on him? He deserves so much more."

Similarly, Legolas also pulled away from me, "What need would I have for a female companion? Besides she shines too bright for me, I would only ever darken her view."

Aragorn looks at the two of us and smirks as if knowing something we don't. "Then I suppose you shall have to be the Sun and the Moon to each other." He turns then, leaving me a mumbling, blushing mess.

Aragorn helps Sam to unload the pony as in the background as I move to talk to Boromir about swordplay strategies.

Seeing the mischievous hobbit pair throwing rocks in the lake, Aragorn reaches out a hand to stop them, "Do not disturb the water." Anxiously Boromir and Aragorn exchange glances as they see the ripples growing in the water.

Frodo suddenly stands up and turns towards Gandalf, "It's a riddle! Speak, friend, and enter. What's the Elvish word for friend?"

"Mellon!" I call out at the same time as Gandalf and the door opens to reveal the dark mines. The fellowship enters into the mines as something dark stirs in the water behind them.

Gimli leads the group as he speaks in his loud, booming voice, "Soon, Master Elf, you will enjoy the fabled hospitality of the Dwarves; roaring fires, malt beer, red meat off the bone! This, my friend, is the home of my cousin Balin ... And they call this a mine. A mine!" He snorts at the end.

My eyes adjusting quicker than the others to the darkness I gasp under my breath and whisper, "No! We cannot stay here."

The glow from Gandalf's staff lights up the surroundings as the others begin to see what I see. Boromir speaks first, "This is no mine... It's a tomb!"

The fellowship pulls out there swords as they move back towards the entrance. I move closer to Aragorn looking for comfort from the dastardly sight in front of us. Legolas pulls an arrow out of one of the skeletons, "Goblins!"

Moving quickly to the exit Boromir calls out, panicked, "We make for the gap of Rohan! We should never have come here."

Suddenly a tentacle reaches out through the door of the cave and snags Frodo. Aragorn shoves me away as he reaches for his sword to fight the monster.

I grab my sword too and move to fight the monster but Gandalf pushes me back, "Protect the other hobbits."

I turn then and look in the other direction, deep into the mines as I wait for the battle to finish.

"Into the mines!" I finally hear Gandalf call out.

With Frodo in hand the group rushes into the caves as the tentacles grab onto the stone behind them collapsing the door.

"Now we have but one choice ... we must face the long dark of Moria. Be on your guard ... there are older and fouler things than the Orcs in the deep places of the world."
