It rained the entire night, soft droplets that lulled people to sleep and could halt a babies crying, all the while still managing to soak the earth in its entirety. The precipitation had come to a standstill the following morning, the sky still a blur of clouds and gray as the wind picked up, gliding through the juniper leaves of the maple trees.
Skyler leapt over the size-able puddle of water left on the sidewalk from the rain, her high top vans colliding with the dampened concrete milliseconds after. She jammed her car keys into the pocket of her jean jacket, looking up at the Pressman household before her. There was a certain shadow cast over the small colonial; perhaps from Cassandra's death, or maybe from something that was to come. Only time would tell.
The brunette spotted Luke sitting on the steps of the porch, a white ceramic mug placed in between his two hands. "Hey, Luke." She offered him a hearty smile. "Grizz inside?" She rested her hand on the railing of the porch, eyeing the rain drops stagnant on the border plants.
"Yeah, his shift just turned over. He's probably asleep." Luke informed, and Skyler nodded before taking a seat on the step beside him.
Allie had offered for her and Grizz to just move into her place with the other committee members but Skyler politely declined, as she couldn't bring herself to move into another persons home just yet. Mainly because she and Allie were never that close to begin with. It would just feel strange. Grizz stayed there sometimes, when he had the early morning shift at five. He told Skyler he enjoyed it because he got to watch the sunrise, and it gave him a sense of hope. He read his books to pass the time, and sent occasional text messages letting the ballerina know whenever he was thinking of her. She found it kind of sweet.
"How's the gun search going?" Skyler turned her attention to the dark haired boy.
Luke shrugged in response. "I think we've got them all for the most part, you can never be sure though; at least not a hundred percent." He looked over to her. "There's too many houses...too many hiding places."
"Agreed." Skyler crossed her legs, pulling her jacket closer.
"Who do you think shot her?" Luke questioned, his curiosity blaring. "Everyone's got a theory."
"Plenty of people are pointing fingers at Campbell." Skyler ran a hand through her dark hair. "But I don't think he did it, it's too messy. —and if he's as batshit as everyone claims, he would've done a better job at covering it up." She answered before deciding to pick Luke's brain in return. "What do you think?"
"I honestly have no idea." He shook his head. "What about your cousin? He's into drugs and stuff, right?"
"Gage? Yeah, um no." Skyler chuckled, thinking of her cousin trying to muster up enough courage to kill another human being. "You're right about the drugs, but he is legitimately the sweetest dude ever."
