Chapter 24

Elysia

I was going to lose my mind.

There was absolute chaos and I couldn't understand any of it. Aldric and his father had nearly killed each other. 

And it was because of me. 

This isn't what I wanted. This isn't what I expected. If anyone should kill that Alpha, it should be me. The wolves didn't attack me - they didn't come forward I realize even though the Alpha commanded them so. Instead, they listened to Aldric - no - it seems like they were far more terrified of Aldric than they were of their Alpha. But before all of that - Aldric called me his mate - he called me his mate. 

Mate.

He said he could prove it. He said - how can I be his mate? But he was protecting me against his pack. Aldric was defending me against all the wolves - the wolves I know he would die for - he was fighting them for me.

The silver-haired wolf - the one they call Seraphina verified it. She even said she can prove it - We are mates? Is that - is that what I have been feeling for Aldric? No. I know what I feel for Aldric is real. Is - is that what he feels for me? Does that even mean it's real? Is it real? I can't breathe - I can't process anything - I can't understand anything.

What the hell is going on?

Aldric's father did not take the response from his wolves well. When he turns around and glares at Aldric, his eyes were bloodshot red. And then, he's transforming. I realized he's turning into a wolf. Aldric's father changes into a wolf with a grey coat. He's growling like the monster he was. At the same time, Aldric was transforming. Out of instinct, I stepped back. Before my eyes, his body was changing. I took another step back. I wanted to run away.

I watched as he suddenly transforms into an enormous wolf with an obsidian black coat and brown eyes. He was at least twice my size. Standing up, his wolf might even be three times my size. He growled angrily and the next thing I see is two wolves preparing to fight one another. My instinct is to run as far away as I could from here and I find myself stepping back before realizing that I'm still surrounded by wolves. They might not attack me because of Aldric's threat but that doesn't mean they'll let me safely run away.

I stared at the wolves again, my body shaking of fear. For the first time, I thoroughly remember I am in a wolf's den. I realized this is the first time I am seeing Aldric in his wolf form. 

Mate? 

I was mated to a werewolf? It wasn't possible.

I need to get out. I need to leave - I need to -

"STOP!" This voice belonged to a little girl - it was Aldric's sister. "STOP! BOTH OF YOU - STOP IT!

Then she was running between the wolves. "PLEASE STOP!" Ella was on the ground now, crying. "I can't believe you two would fight like that. All for a witch."

She pressed a hand to her father and then to Aldric.

"This is my fault," she cried. "This is all my fault. I wish I had just died that day - I wish -" Then she turns to me.

"I HATE YOU!" this time I was planted to the ground. I can't move - I can't run. "YOU RUINED MY FAMILY, YOU BITCH!"

The little girl despised me.

I can't even breathe. My head was hurting too much. My heart was pounding. I can't even run away. You have magic - you can run. But if I run I will never get the answers I wanted from Aldric. I turned to the obsidian haired wolf.
