As the sun rose the next day, Shelby and Tyler quickly woke up and packed up their bathing suits as well as some extra clothes.
"Hurry up Tyler!" Shelby hollered as she ran down to the canoe dock "We need to get a canoe before they are all gone!"
"I'm coming, Shelby, I'm coming!"
As they reached the dock, another girl as well as a boy were there. The girl looked up at them. She smiled. She was short and round with curly, dirty brown hair, as well as brown eyes. The boy was slim and tall with glasses and black hair, he was dark skinned, and looked friendly enough.
"You are lucky you got here on time!" The girl said, smiling.
"Yeah!" Tyler agreed, still trying to catch her breath after the run.
There were only three out of the seven canoes left. Shelby and Tyler walked past the girl and boy, heading over to the canoe beside them.
"My name is Cathy, this is my boyfriend, Marcus!" She smiled sweetly. She was a cute, innocent looking girl, no wonder he was dating her.
"I'm Tyler, this is my best friend, Shelby!" Tyler pointed over her shoulder, towards Shelby.
"It's nice to meet you!" Cathy said, excitedly.
"You too!" Shelby said back as she untied the canoe from the dock. They both threw their bags in the canoe and started out onto the lake, of course, they waved goodbye to Cathy and Marcus first."Land ho!" Tyler pointed over to the sandy side of the lake shore. They hadn't come far. After they had left camp the only place to go to that was far off was a smaller lake connected to the big one. A stone bridge rested over the connection, but there was enough room underneath to row a canoe.
They pulled into a stop at the edge of the lake. Tyler jumped off first and let her toes rest in the warm sand that lined the edge of the water.
"Help me with the canoe, would ya?" Shelby teased.
"Right, sorry!" Tyler jumped up and helped Shelby pull the canoe onto the grass. They flipped it over so that it would not slide back into the water and sat the paddle beside it.
"Time to swim!" Tyler grabbed her bathing suit and ran into the trees to change. Shelby chuckled and walked into the trees in the opposite direction. She suddenly heard a loud splash and knew instantly.
"I told you not to jump in without me!" Shelby smiled.
"Too late!" Tyler hollered, diving back underneath the water.About an hours worth of swimming had gone by and Shelby was on her back in the sand, catching the warmth of sun on her stomach, her arms over her eyes to stop the sun from hurting them. Something wet fell over Shelby's stomach.
"Tyler!"
"What?"
"Don't do that!" Shelby sat up quickly.
"Do what?" Tyler asked.
"Pour water all over me!"
"That wasn't me!" Tyler was still wading in the water staring up at her, confused.
"Then who was it?" Shelby asked, curious to hear her answer.
Tyler's eyes grew wide. "Maybe, him?" Tyler pointed above Shelby's head.
Shelby looked down at the sand and now there was a shadow that wasn't hers. She gulped. Shelby turned her head to see bright blue eyes staring back at her. "Spencer!" Shelby raised up her hand and patted the big black dragon on his head. "How are you doing buddy?" She turned and sat on her knees, petting him and squishing his face with her hands.
"He isn't ever going to leave you alone ever again, you know that right?" Tyler smiled, raising up one eyebrow.
"I know!" Shelby smiled, still petting the large male.
Tyler looked up. "It's getting dark, I think we should head back!"
"Okay!" Shelby hollered back, standing up and walking over to the canoe. Spencer flew over them the entire way home.
