Chapter 8 - Into The Woods

"Can we go back now? It's been an hour!" Shawn groaned "My feet hurt! I'm tired of walking!".
"Okay..fine, let's go back" Shelby yawned, and turned around.

     Twenty minutes passed, so far they had not reached camp.

     "Are you sure we are going the right way, Shelby?" Shawn asked curiously.
     "Yes I'm sure!" She snapped.
     "You're sure..?" Shawn's voice became lower.
     "Yes! What? Do you think I'm going the wrong way?!" She glared at him.
     "No it's just.." Shawn paused "It took us five minutes to walk to the forest right?"
     "Yeah.." Shelby looked up at him, confused.
     "Well it's been twenty minutes.." Shawn looked down at her from RedWood's back.

     A feeling of fear, anger, and confusion ran over Shelby. How did she not notice? How is this possible? Are we lost?

     "Okay.." Shelby paused, breathing heavy "Let's go that way.." she pointed over to the left.

     They walked for a few more minutes, on and off of their dragons. After trying different directions they had determined that they were lost. As the sun set, they made a small fire place out of sticks.

     "Tomorrow we will make it back, right?" Shelby looked over at Shawn, who was covered by RedWoods wing.
     "I'm sure of it.." He looked back at her.
     "..I bet Tyler is worried about me.." Shelby mumbled. Tears formed in her eyes.
     "Hey, Tyler is away from you almost all the time since you live in different counties, right? What one more night?" Shawn smiled and yawned, falling asleep under RedWood's wing.
     Shelby nodded and slept on the soft grass. Spencer wrapped his wing around her to warm her up.
