I stared at him in shock. This was the last thing I was expecting to hear coming from his mouth. He couldn't be serious. All my imaginations, all my fantasies and daydreams, they couldn't be real. It was absolutely absurd and ridiculously ludicrous. I wanted to smack Damian upside the head for saying such crazy words. But the look on his face told me that he wasn't lying at all.
"Okay," I said calmly. His eyes widened like I had grown a second head. I simply looked at Damian, a small silence settling over us.
"Okay? Is that really all you're going to say to that?"
"Well what do you want me to say to that Damian? It's better than freaking out and running away, isn't it? Besides, does that mean that my mother was a werewolf? My adoptive mother, I mean," I added after a slight pause. His eyes widened again. I forgot that Damian was kind of new.
He moved in with my mother and her family two months before I arrived. I guess that since I was related to everyone else in the house, he assumed that I had lived there most of my life. But if he thought that and believed I was related to them, then did that mean that I was a werewolf? I didn't know what any of this meant. Damian seemed a little confused as well, so at least I wasn't alone.
"Yes," he said tentatively. "But that also means that you're werewolf too. Or at least part werewolf. You smell, look, and act human. You don't have your wolf yet, but there are others like that. Your human parents gene just dominated the werewolf. There are plenty out there like that. They all have different traits of a werewolf that aren't always too extreme. Sometimes they are. The results of a werewolf human offspring varies. It's different every time."
I bit my bottom lip as I processed this. I looked away, turning my attention to the calming water below. Even though I trusted Damian, I still had my doubts. But then again, who wouldn't doubt this? This is absolutely insane, yet I'm accepting it.
I remember comparing my mother and Damian to werewolves and suddenly, I burst out laughing. I guess I always had a feeling about them. Damian looked at me like I was a mad woman. I just couldn't help myself. I found this funny. Or maybe I was just in shock or something. Finally I sobered up, waving off Damian's concerned expression.
"So where's your proof," I asked him. I turned my head to look at him and he was studying me carefully. I met his eyes, never pulling them away. It was like a staring contest, and I wasn't losing this. He sighed and took a step back.
He pulled his shirt over his head, unzipped and unbuttoned his pants, kicked off his shoes, and slowly pulled his pants down, leaving him in his boxers, and never taking his eyes off of me. Finally, he stepped out of the pants and took a few more steps back.
"Remember your promise princesa," he said quietly. I nodded once and that's when he started transforming. His legs grew longer, then his body got bigger, and furrier. Then there was a huge, chocolate brown wolf in front of me. It wasn't as big as the ones portrayed in the Twilight movies, but it wasn't a regular sized wolf either. His head came up to my shoulders and his big gray eyes were still burning into mine. I felt a hint of a smile pull up my lips.
I took a few cautious steps towards him and he remained still and tense. I reached my hand out and timidly pushed it into the fur on what would have been his cheek. He was still stiff at first but when I flashed a big smile at the feeling of his soft fur, he relaxed and leaned his head into my hand, closing his eyes.
I don't care if other people thought that he would have been scary, because I thought that it was freaking adorable. I loved animals and whether he was in there or not, it looked like a wolf, so of course, I wanted to pet him.
