The Mistake

I woke up, the bright sunlight in my eyes was blinding and my head ached. Actually, my head was pounding, but I couldn't turn away. A thick, muscled arm was wrapped around me, securing me in place with one hand cupping my bare breast. Last night's events washed over me. Although it felt amazing in the moment, now I felt like shit. I just slept with my best friend and it didn't mean a thing to me. Hopefully it didn't mean anything to him either.

I was tired but I wasn't sleepy tired. It was hard to explain. I tried to move again, but it was a lot harder to twist out of a werewolf's hold than you'd think. I wasn't able to move but I was able to wake him. I heard his husky voice behind me.

"Vic? Where are you going," he asked. He loosened his grip and I stood up, pulling a sheet with me to cover myself.

"Damian, I- This was a mistake. I was drunk and upset last night and I had no idea what I was doing. It's not like I didn't enjoy it, because it was really good, it's just that I didn't mean to and you're my best friend and I don't think this should happen again. You know, because then things might get weird and we're living here together and everything and I don't want it to get awkward." I was rambling. I tend to do that sometimes.

Damian only looked at me with an amused smile on his face. He stood up and I was reminded of the day he showed me his wolf. He obviously wasn't ashamed, but if I looked like that, I'd probably be a little more confident as well.

"It's okay princesa. Maybe we could be friends with benefits. We all have our needs and it's not wrong if we must fulfill them from time to time. Besides, you're better in bed than I thought you'd be," he said with a wink. I stood there, shocked. I thought that it would've gone a lot different, but I guess I thought wrong.

"Oh. Uh, okay then," I said.

"Well, if you need anything else, let me know and I'll be happy to oblige," he said. The smirk on his face didn't disappear as he pulled his pants back on and walked out of my room into the hallway. I took a deep breath then threw the sheet back on the bed before gathering my discarded clothes and putting them in the hamper. I grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a tank top, along with some underwear, and walked into my bathroom to take a warm shower.

When I came out, I went and flopped on my bed. I closed my eyes and before I knew it, I woke up in the late afternoon.

Despite the somewhat awkward conversation with Damian afterwards, I felt really good. I guess that sex really is a good stress relief, but I knew it wouldn't last too long. I was probably going to use this weekend to sulk in my own self pity. My life was pathetic. Not even a month in and I already knew that this adult life was gonna suck.

I abruptly stood up, finding a resolve and threw on some better clothes. Actually, I wasn't going to wallow in pity. I was going to get up off my ass and live my pathetic little life anyways. Nick wasn't going to stop me from moving forward. I grabbed the car keys, since I had finally found one to call my own.

I was walking around town, looking for help wanted signs in store windows. I needed a job, and this was step one of bringing my life back together. So far, I haven't had much luck until I stumbled upon a diner. It was modern, yet not at the same time. It still had tacky red booths and black and white tiled floors, but the counters and menu boards were newer and according to the sign out front, they had free WiFi.

I walked in, the bell above the door jingling. There were two women and a man behind the counter, while there were several customers spread throughout the interior. I walked up to the counter and cleared my throat. A girl with wavy blonde hair, green eyes, and huge dimples smiled at me. She looked around my age too.

"Hi. I wanted to ask about the help wanted sign on the window? I've been walking around all day and haven't found much luck," I explained. The girls smile grew wider and I realized that her name tag read Alexis. She looked like her name suit her.

"You'll have to talk to our manager. Luckily, he isn't busy, so he'll see you right away. Follow me," she instructed. I did as she said and followed her into the back, down a little hallway.

We stopped in front of a door that said "manager" on a plaque. She knocked twice on the door and when a voice on the other side allowed it, we walked in. I froze in my tracks. I wasn't expecting to see him here.

He flashed me what seemed to be a secret smile and leaned back in his chair. Alexis closed the door behind us and stepped in front of me, closer to him.

"Sorry to bother you. She was here for the opening job," Alexis explained for me. I was grateful that she was talking because my throat felt dry and I didn't want to talk about it more than necessary.

"That's alright," the guy said. "I'm Mason, the manager. You are…" he trailed off, prompting me. In front of me stood the guy from the party last night. Mason. I had almost had sex with him, and now he looked terrible. His face was badly bruised and his throat was purple. Why the hell was he even at work right now?

Actually, I was surprised. He had looked a lot worse the night before. He should look way worse because I was there to witness Nick beating his ass. Right now, he looked like he'd been slapped a couple times and someone tried to strangle him. He had gotten punched repeatedly by Nick. A lycan. Either this guy was a werewolf or lycan, with super healing powers, or I didn't remember the details correctly.

"Oh. Sorry. I'm Victoria," I said, once I was pulled from my thoughts. I took his hand in mine and shook it. I heard Alexis step out and shut the door behind her, leaving us alone. Mason gestured towards the chairs in front of his desk, so I sat. I didn't say anything at first, but the tension in the room was obvious.

"Look, Victoria, let's forget what happened last night. Think of it as an altercation, or a part of the past that you completely forget about. As of right now, you're trying to get a job," he said.

       I nodded in agreement.

"You're right. We can be mature adults about this and put it behind us. I need this job. I don't have many other options," I admitted. He gave me a small, friendly smile before he started asking questions, which I answered honestly. No, I didn't have any job experience, no I never waited food, no I never did this, or that, blah blah blah.

"Alright. All things considered, you're hired," Mason permitted. I smiled and did a victory dance in my head. This day was turning around.

"Thanks," I said, standing up. Before I could turn the knob on the door, I paused to make an observation. "Your wounds seem to be healing nicely. That's good, right?"

He chuckled and nodded. "Yes. Yes it is. I'll be fine. I always find a way to make it through, I suppose. I guess it's just luck." I smiled at him and walked out, listening to the rhythm of my shoes hitting the ground as I walked down the hallway.
