The Sibling

I looked to Nick, my questions written all over my face. I was sure that he could tell, but his gaze was fixed on Zoey. His sister.

"I wish I could say the same, but personally, I wouldn't mind it if I never saw you again. In fact, I hadn't even thought of you," he said coldly. They obviously had a rough past, but I had no idea what it was. I didn't even know he had siblings. I vaguely remember him telling me that he was an only child at some point.

As I looked at Zoey again, I tried to look for similarities. They both had the same hair color, but hers was longer and wavy, but not quite like mine. She had green eyes instead of his deep blues. She had the same cheekbones and the same lips shape, though hers were slightly fuller than his were.

The similarities between them were somewhat obvious, but at the same time, they weren't. I wasn't sure what to do. Do I speak up and say something? If I were to do that, then what would I even say? "Hi, I'm Victoria. It's nice to meet you future sister-in-law." No that wouldn't work. I tried to decide what to do. It was all so confusing.

"Can you give Nicholas and I a moment?"

I was snapped out of my questioning reverie at the sound of Zoey's voice being directed towards me. My eyes widened for a second and I glanced at Nick before subtly nodding. She stood up to let me slide out the booth and I walked to the back, towards the women's restroom. When I went in, I stood in front of the mirror.

I took several deep breaths to try and calm down. Was I supposed to be freaking out like this? I don't think I was. It was only his sister that he never told me about. I mean sure, I should be shocked, but I shouldn't be panicking like this. Maybe it was because of the chills she gave me. She was kind of creepy to me and I didn't like the way I felt around her.

I didn't know what to do, so I just stood there, staring blankly at my reflection in the mirror. I wasn't sure how long it had been, but I jumped when the door opened. Zoey walked in with a grin on her face and she came closer to me.

"I'm sorry we had to meet this way. What was your name," she asked. I swallowed when I looked over at her to see that her eyes were once again on my throat and I shifted uncomfortably.

"Uh… it's Victoria," I informed her. She smiled and held out her hand.

"Nice to meet you Victoria. I'm Zoey Elizabeth Parker," she said. I didn't say anything and I didn't shake her hand either. Not only was I still weird about touching people, but she was giving me creepy vibes. After seeing that I wasn't planning to shake hands, she awkwardly brought her arm back to her side.

"Did Nick not tell you about me," she asked. I shook my head in answer. She tilted her head to the side and watched me carefully, scrutinizing me. I just didn't know why.

"Well, why don't you tell me what my dear old brother has been up to," she said. I looked at her wordlessly for a few seconds.

I didn't trust her as far as I could throw her, and I kept my mouth shut as I looked down at the floor. She brought up her icy cold fingers to tilt my head up so that I looked directly into her narrowed eyes.

I watched as her pupils dilated then turned to pinpoints as she spoke to me.

"I said tell me about what my brother has been doing," she demanded. I suddenly knew what she was doing. I recognized it from the one time Nick had done it to me. She was using mind control, and at that moment, only one word entered my mind. Vampire.
