Work Hard

I was in a bad mood for the rest of the day, but I tried to brighten up because it was my first day at work. I was somewhat excited, yet I knew that when I got more into it, it would most likely be tiring.

When I walked into the diner, Alexis was there, smiling at me. The place was empty, since we hadn't yet opened, and not many employees were here yet. I walked behind the counter and Alexis led me to the back, where I got a locker to put my things in and she handed me a plain white apron with the diners logo on the front.

Before we opened, Alexis told me which tables I'd be waiting before she ran me through the basic training. About an hour after we opened, the place was really more of a hustle and bustle. There were a lot of customers at this time of day and I got a lot of tips as well. The first day flew by and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Alexis congratulated me on my successful day. I thanked her as walked out to my car. It was around ten in the evening and traffic was a little heavy. I checked my phone after sitting in the driver's seat. Damian left me three voicemails and a bunch of text messages.

Damian(6:57pm): Hey, where are you?

Damian(7:04pm): hurry home plz. It's sort of important.

Damian(7:28pm): Nick is here. He wants to talk. Are you okay?

Damian(7:49pm): You do realize that you're driving us both crazy, right? Plz let me know where you are princesa.

Damian(8:32pm): Do I need to send out a search party or something?

Damian(9:25pm): You have until midnight before I come searching. I'm really worried.

I read the messages and then immediately called him. He picked up on the second ring.

"Where the hell are you Victoria?" Uh oh. He only used my whole name of he's angry with me.

"I- I'm sorry. I could've sworn that I told you I was going to work," I muttered. I knew that I didn't tell him. Not because I was hiding it, I just never thought to tell him. I should've at least texted him when I got to the diner though.

"Jesus princesa. You had me worried sick. I thought maybe the Blackwood's found you or something and I was imagining the worst things possible and I was starting to freak out and then-"

I cut off his rambling. He did that when he was upset.

"What did Nick want," I asked him.

"I don't know. He just showed up at our door and said he wanted to talk to you, and when I told him you weren't here, he waited for about an hour before storming out. He didn't tell me what it was about."

I sighed and told him that I was on my way home before hanging up the phone. The whole drive there, I was thinking of Nick. I thought of the incredibly electric kiss with him and knew that nothing could ever compare. Then I thought of the woman he was with. Were they together? Was that why he was so reluctant to be with me?

I'm so stupid. Of course a guy like him would already have a girlfriend and of course it was a woman like that. That was the whole problem. I didn't live up to his standards. I wasn't pretty, curvy, or exotic enough for him. That woman looked perfect for him though. I realized that the sooner I accepted that, the sooner I could move on with my life.

When I got home, I sat in the car for a while, lost in thought. Everything was just so fucked up right now. My life was a mess. I wanted to go to a bar and get drunk. Forget about my problems and the rest of the world. Forget about Nick and his perfect blonde bitch. I let out a grown of frustration and got out of the car, slamming the door shut. This was not my day.
