"Why are you all moody?" Lyla scoffs, forcing herself in front of the girl. Cherry doesn't give a verbal response at first, shrugging before stuffing her hands into the pockets of her hoodie. Cherry notices she needs to wash it; the spaghetti her dad made last night staining the collar of it. She also notes how the makeup stains never seem to disappear, either. "Is it because of Sean?" She finally makes eye contact with Lyla, just in time to see her fail as she tries to wiggle her brows.

"You suck at wiggling your eyebrows."

"You didn't answer the question."

"You ignored my statement," she retorts, getting an annoyed groan from Lyla in response. Her reaction makes her expression falter. She forces takes a deep breath before exhaling loudly. "I'm just tired," she shrugs, forcing her head up to look at Lyla, who goes to argue before her attention is drawn to Sean. He stands a few feet away, distracted by something in front of him. Lyla gives Cherry 'the look' before she walks over to him. Cherry watches out of complete boredom. She is able to conquer it once she places one of her earbuds back in, the music making her tap her fingers against her thigh.

"Okay, update time!" Lyla states, gaining both Sean and Cherry's attention. "You heard back from Jenn yet?" she wonders. This piques Cherry's curiosity, drawing her closer to the duo. She notices Sean glancing at his phone in his hand before answering.

"Uh-no," he answers. "I'm sure she'll reply at some point."

"Let us take a look at the situation." Sean lets a moment pass before handing his phone to Lyla, who takes a step toward Cherry so both can look at his text messages.

"Hey Jenn, u going to the party tonight?" Cherry mumbles under her breath. "You suck at flirting," she points out, looking up to see Sean rolling his eyes.

"I'm no good at this," he whines, receiving an eye roll in response.

"Alright, what are you going to text her next?" she wonders. He takes a moment to think before he says, "How about: Yo Jenn, see you at the party, let me know if I should bring handcuffs? " Cherry's eyes widen hysterically before she gags loudly. That line seemed to have brought up her lunch from the depths of the black hole she calls her stomach. "I'm trying!"

"Get this poor man a drink!" she exclaims. Lyla grins happily, pointing at the boy as well.

"He's dying of thirst!" Lyla gasps, placing her hand over her heart, Cherry doing the same. Both girls sigh dramatically before silence falls....until their laughter is heard, gaining a loud groan from Sean. "Give me it." She pulls his phone from his hands before pushing it towards Cherry's stomach, nearly knocking the wind out of her. "Let Cherry the Magician work her magic." Despite giving an eye roll, Cherry is able to come up with a text to send to Jenn after a few moments, even with the conversation happening beside her distracting her thoughts.

"Why did you name her that again? It doesn't even rhyme," Sean states.

"Because of the party trick she does," she states. Her tone to him can be described in one word: Duh. "You still have to teach us it."

"It wasn't a magic trick, first off. It was pretty much a crime. So fuck-" she hands Lyla the phone in one movement, rolling her eyes while doing so, "that."

"Please tell me you didn't make me sound like a loser," Sean begs.

"That would've been too easy," she shrugs.

"Would be awesome 2 see you there," he reads aloud.

"I had to dumb it down so Jenn could understand it," Cherry shrugs again, gaining a loud snort from Lyla before she covers her mouth in embarrassment. She watches as Sean's shoulders tense before he gives her another glare. He doesn't get the reaction he wanted. Instead, he watches as a slow grin forms on her face, somehow fueling his anger even more. She raises her hands in defeat, an airy breath passing her lips. "Your standard in girls is a bit low," she points out, her grin becoming wider as she can just see the fumes coming from his ears.

"She's not wrong," Lyla adds, passing him his phone. The girls watch his expression falter, making Cherry roll her eyes while Lyla tries to lighten the mood. "At least she made it so Jenn would text back," she smiles nervously.

"I don't like who you date but that doesn't mean I can't help you," Cherry speaks nonchalantly. She watches a soft smile form on his lips, and she can feel her cheeks slowly warm up.

"Thanks."

"Yeah," she mumbles, finding the ground very appealing at the moment.

Finding the awkward silence between the two a bit too much, Lyla grabs them by their arms before yanking them down the sidewalk, forcing them to walk. "She'll text back. You'll see," she promises.

"But I don't even know if I want to go tonight," Sean states. It gains him a smack upside the head by Lyla. "What was that for?!" he exclaims, stopping to scowl the girl.

"Oh please. It's gonna be fun!" she insists. Cherry can only roll her eyes, looking over at the sun that's beginning to set. She admires how the colors seem to blend flawlessly from yellow to orange and from orange to blue. "You hate every party. What about the one we went to last year? Why'd you hate that?" Her question perks Cherry's interest, a smirk forming on her lips as she turns to face the two. Sean spots her eagerness, causing him to open his mouth before she did.

"It wasn't fun. That's all." Cherry rolls her eyes playfully, amusement on her face. "There's too many people," he continues his rant, "too fucking loud, and everybody's wasted." Cherry's mouth opens and closes, trying to come up with a proper way to respond to his reasons.

"Sean," Cherry starts slowly, bringing her words together to create a coherent sentence, "you just described a party." She isn't able to see him react as their attention is given to his phone, hearing it ring before he takes it out of his pocket.

"So? The suspense is killing me!" Lyla exclaims, finding it hard to hide her excitement. Cherry can only roll her eyes once more, deciding to walk ahead of the two instead of listening to him gush over Jenn. She can feel herself gagging already. "Where are you going?!"

"I'll meet you guys at the house!" she yells back. She gives the two a small wave but doesn't bother looking at them, eyes on the ground once more. Her departure brings silence over Sean and Lyla before the boy breaks it.

"I feel like at some points we don't even know her," he states, waving his hand where she once stood.

"She's actually pretty cool once you get to know her," Lyla suggests. "Which you haven't!" she emphasizes with the nudge of her shoulder. "I mean, we've known her for almost a year now, she helps you deal with your brother, and you haven't bothered to ask her anything?" She doesn't give him time to respond, deeming the question rhetorical. "She's helping you get ready for the party, right?" She receives a nod. "You can try then. For your best-est friend, give her the shot that she deserves. Maybe you'll like her more than you expected."

Sean takes a few moments to respond, finding himself having to swallow his pride so he's able to mumble, "No promises."
