Badger! Aspenpaw barely had time to react, before the badger raised a heavy paw and slammed it down onto her back. Besides her, lynxshadow pounced on the badger hissing and spitting.

"Lead it away from camp!" The thunderclan deputy hissed as the badger through her off. "Go towards the river!" The patrol started running through the thick undergrowth, the badger a mouse length from snapping at their paws. When they reached the river, they kept attacking the badger. After a while, aspenpaw heard a load hiss.

"Help lynxshadow and her patrol! I'll go get some herbs." The badger, as if it only just realised it was outnumber, ran off towards the twoleg place when another two cats started to help fight it.

"What are you doing on this side of the river!" Goldenmoth hissed.

"Goldenmoth, they helped us defeat the badger." Pineflower said calmly. "How's Willowstar and alderstorm?" He turned to the riverclan cats.

"Why d'you wanna know?" An apprentice hissed. Her mentor cuffed her over the ear.

"Pineflower here is willowstar and alderstorm's brother." The grey warrior hissed. "You must be more respectful if you want to be a warrior, cinderpaw." As he said this, a grey she-cat returned, carrying a bundle of herbs.

"Pineflower!" She smiled at the warrior. "It's great to see you again."

"You too!" Pineflower smiled.

"Greetings Willowstar. Have you got herbs for us?" Lynxshadow dipped her head.

"Wait, Willowstar? How does she know herbs?" Aspenpaw asked.

"When I was younger," Willowstar began "I trained as a medicine cat. The leader before me, fishstar, went on a long journey when he was an apprentice, past high stones, up to a mountain. He met a group of cats called the tribe. The way the tribe worked, only one cat was both leader and medicine cat. Fishstar, well, he preferred the tribe's ways. He made me deputy because of this. Everycat, including me, mind you, didn't really like the fact that I was deputy. Fishstar refused to name another deputy, as my mentor, Herbear, was growing old. So I became deputy, and then Fishstar died a few seasons ago, so I became leader. I still know my medicine cat ways though." Willowstar explained, as she checked everyone's wounds. "Most of you seem ok to go back to your own camps. I would like to return with you and speak with lilyfire, please." Willowstar flicked her tail to tell her patrol to return to camp.

When lynxshadow's patrol returned, hawkstorm rushe out of the medicine den. He ran over to lynxshadow when he saw her. "Lilyfire's dead!" He told her, fear in his eyes.
