27 ♤ Fifteen Hours

The room was loud, but I was used to it. It was never quiet in the cafeteria, and we learnt to either talk loud or be drowned out.
"Court," Olivia grabbed my attention across the table, "what'd you get on your math test?"
"87," I replied. It was better than most of my grades on tests, so I wasn't complaining.
"I got an 83," she replied, slightly glumly.
"I got a 69," Noah announced proudly, a smug look crossing his face.
I rolled my eyes at him, chucking a piece of my sandwich in his direction. He laughed, dodging it.
"You're so childish," Sarah commented, glancing at us.
Sam, seated beside Olivia, was smirking, though, his fingers interlaced with hers instinctively. He would occasionally get her to look at him and pop a skittle into her mouth before she would run her hand through his hair and turn back to the conversation, leaving Sam to sit and smile to himself about the small, cute gesture.
I absentmindedly sat, gently swaying back and forth on the bench, zoning out as I ate my sandwich.
"Court," Noah said to me.
"Huh?"
"How's your after school tutoring going?" Noah asked out loud before leaning in and muttering so that only I was able to hear him, "Is Charlotte still on your back about the sex thing?"
I nearly blushed, the memory of what Shayne and I doing on his desk barely a week ago popping into my mind, but I controlled it. "The tutoring's pretty good," I said loudly, then leaning into Noah to mumble, "She hasn't said anything since."
He nodded, continuing his eating.
"I miss walking home with you," Noah commented.
"Me too, I wish I still walked wih y'all," Sarah smiled sadly.
I leaned behind Noah, tapping her on the shoulder beside him. She looked back at me, grinning.
"Oh, Court, Vick asked if you were still doing the banner and stuff," Olivia announced.
I shuddered involuntarily. "No."
She shrugged slightly before glancing behind me, a look of confusion on her face. "Is that..."
Noah turned around, glancing behind us. "Why is he in here?"

Not less than five minutes later, I was sitting in the desk closest to Shayne's, watching with amusement as he lifted his leg over his head.
Once it was behind his head, he looked at me for approval.
I giggled. "You dragged me out of lunch for this?"
"Yes," he said defensively, dropping his leg.
I shook my head to myself, biting my lip to stifle my overwhelming laughter as I glanced at my lap.
"Oh, come on, it wasn't that bad," he grinned.
I raised an eyebrow questioningly, still trying to stop the laughter that racked through my body.
Shayne pouted before standing up, stretching his arms out with a yawn. Approaching my desk, he pressed his elbows down onto the wood, his eyes making contact with mine.
"You doing anything over break?"
I shrugged. "I dunno," I said, "you?"
"I-I was going out to Oregon to see my father at the nursing home," he answered quietly, glancing to the floor.
