Chapter 2I skimmed the living room, looking for my bow. They could have arrived any moment. I needed to find my bow-- and fast. I walk faster, going through every room.
"Where could it be?" I wonder to myself. I think of everywhere I haven't checked. Though, I've checked every room. . .
The garage! I quickly ran toward the garage. Halfway there, I hear the doorbell.Ding dong!
I sprint over to the door in my socks, slipping across the hardwood floor. Buckles ran in front of me to stop me from leaving and block the door. Then he started barking at me. He knew that I needed to leave. I was surprised that they were here already. I thought that I still had fifteen minutes left before they came! They were supposed to come at 8:45, and it's only 8:30. I answered the door and saw my best friends, Lunar and Remi, standing right outside.
"Hey, ready to go yet?" Remi asked.
"No, but I'm almost ready. I just need one more thing. I'll be done in another minute or two." I replied, holding up my fingers.
"Soren, if we don't start heading down there within a couple minutes, we might be late!" Lunar reminded me.
They must be exaggerating. They came here early, didn't they? Maybe I didn't keep track of time looking for my bow, or maybe they're wrong, or joking? Maybe my clock's off. . ?
I glanced over at the clock and it said it was 8:50! My eyes widen. Nope, it's not off! I panicked and I go at least two times faster than before to run to the garage
As I hurried to the garage, I heard Remi distantly yelling, "Hurry up slowpoke, if we're late it's on you!"
"Okay, okay!" I run around the corner and pull the door open. At first, I scanned the table in the back where I put all my supplies for fixing stuff. Then I see my bow sitting on the table in the middle of the garage. Now that I remember, I was polishing it up for today so nothing would go wrong and have it's best performance. Now it might all get messed up because I took so long though.
"Guys, I found it!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. I grip my bow and sling it over my shoulder, being careful not to break it in the process. I slip across the ground to the door. My familiar owl (that I haven't found a name for) flew to me and started cawing.
"Don't worry buddy, I'll teleport you there later— if we win." I said hesitantly. I pet his head one last time before I leave, then hand him his favorite treat.
"Be good while I'm gone, okay?" I stand up then put my shoes on, leaving them untied.
"Okay, I'm ready, let's go!" I closed the door.
We walked a little faster than we usually do getting to the teleporter. We weren't gonna walk a thousand miles. While we were walking, I breathed in the fresh morning air, and stared at the grass dripping with water.
Remi's bird flies up to her. "Hello." She says softly while feeding her bird some seeds. She lifts her finger up and the white bird flies up. "I'll see you later." She smiles. I look around while walking. Looking at every house along the sidewalk. I keep wondering if we'd make it in or not. . .
We should make it through the first battles and challenges I heard that they were pretty easy. At least, if you get the luck of the draw.
"Aren't you guys excited?" Remi asked us.
"Yeah, why wouldn't we be!" Lunar smiled, not looking at Remi's direction. I walk forward a bit to catch up with them.
"Yeah, we've been training basically our whole lives for this moment. Now, we have to make it count!" They both nod their heads, smiling.
We walk another couple minutes. I look at Remi. She had her hands behind her back as she walked, and looked like she was trying to think of something to say to break the silence. I look down at the cement and continue walking. About ten minutes of walking goes by. We're almost there, I think.
"Anyways, Soren! We had waffles for breakfast without you, and they were really good! Oops, too bad I 'forgot' to make some for you." Remi said sarcastically, making quotation signs with her hands. They both laughed at me. I stopped to stare at them for a moment.
"Did you just say that. . ." I paused. "You had. . . waffles. . . without me?" I grit my teeth.
I can't believe that they actually didn't bring waffles for me. I didn't even eat any breakfast, and I'm hungry! Maybe they'll have food there at The Tryouts. But, since they didn't bring me any. I looked at the ground and grinned. I'll make them remember next time.
While I was thinking, they got a head start and started dashing forward. Realizing this, I chase after them, trying to catch up. They probably won't get too far anyways. I started to run a little faster and eventually got slightly closer to Lunar. She shouts, "He's gaining on us!"
"Oh, I thought he would have caught up a long time ago." Remi said with sarcasm, and a hint of disappointment. She started to run faster and Lunar fell behind by at least 10 yards. Lunar started heavily breathing after a minute or two. I could almost grab the clothes on Lunar's back, just barely touching it
"Lunar!" Remi stopped for a moment, then grabbed her wrist and pulled her forward with her, running and getting ahead of me. They both laughed and continued to run to the portal room.
Though once Remi got quite far ahead, she let go of Lunar and stayed at an even pace. Which was about the same pace that I was going at. Maybe I won't be able to get them this time. I see the portal room and put my hands on my legs, heavily breathing to catch my breath. They both stopped in front of the teleportation room and Lunar faced both of us.
"Okay, we should stop. We can't be wasting our energy before the tryouts even start, right?" Remi and I both nod our heads in agreement.
We all stepped into the teleportation room. We usually walk to most places, but it was a long way away from where we were at the moment. We'd never have time to walk, even if we started yesterday.
We focused on teleporting. I close my eyes for a second, waiting to see what it'd be like when I opened them. I just hope we don't end up in Polarious or something.
I opened my eyes and looked up at the clear, blue sky. I felt the sun's rays shining down on me and hitting my skin. It was the perfect day to be holding The Tryouts. It was beautiful.
I can't believe we're actually here after all this time training. Everyone always told us, "You aren't good enough." and something along the lines of, "You'll never make it to a place like that" but that just made us train harder! We wanted to be the best. Now we were finally offered the chance to prove them all wrong!
