Chapter 1
"Lunar, wake up!" I hear Emeria shout from the outside of my room. I hear the door slowly creek open. She's probably checking if I'm awake yet. My eyes felt glued shut. I open my eyes just a little, but not enough to see. I turn on my side toward the blurred wall and put the blanket over my eyes to block the bright sun shining through the window. My eyes closed again as if there was a weight pushing them together. Every step she took was louder than the last. Couldn't she just let me sleep? "Come on, wake up Lunar!" She says, starting to get annoyed. She waits for a response. I didn't move a muscle. If she thought I was asleep, she'd either leave, or yell louder. Maybe even pull me out of bed, but I hoped she would just leave and figure I'd meet her out at the training grounds later. She sighed. "I'll make you waffles if you wake up right now. . ." My ears twitch at the word "waffles." I quickly turn over and look over at the small digital clock. It was still two hours before even she went to the training grounds. What could've been so important that she had to wake me up this early? "Hmph." I slouch down into my pillow and look up at her, squinting my eyes. I tried my best to look angry, but it was hard considering I was still half asleep. I hoped that would make her leave. She stared at me every second I stared at her. I was hoping she'd leave, but she didn't even take a step toward the door. I wasn't falling back asleep anyways. "Ughhh, what do you want?" I grumpily asked. "The Tryouts are today . . ." She told me as if I were stupid. Tryouts? Tryouts for- "The Tryouts!" I throw the covers off as they fold over itself from the hip down. The sudden change to room temperature made me get a chill down my spine. "Are you serious?! I thought they were next week- I need to get ready!" I panicked and jolted out of bed, leaving blankets scattered across the floor. Emeria frowns. "We were talking about it all week. How could you not remember?" I run to my closet and look for something decent to wear. "We were talking about it all week?" Why'd I ask that? Of course we were talking about it all weak! How could we not talk about something so big? She rolled her eyes, though I could still hear her laugh a bit. "Anyways, you only have half an hour to get ready. So I'd hurry up." She said, skimming the wall with her fingers while walking toward the door. I looked for some clothes, barely looking at each of them before I decided the next one wasn't good either. "Still, I need to find my gear. I don't know where I put it, then after that I need to securely clip every piece together!" I complained, not looking away from the closet. "I know. That's your fault that you didn't wake up sooner." She shrugged. "You didn't try to wake me up sooner." I grit my teeth. She ignores me and starts to walk out of the room. "Well, I'll be making waffles while you get ready." She shuts the door and I hear her footsteps slowly fade as she walks down the stairs. Finally. The faster I get ready, the faster I'd get waffles. I mean, who doesn't like waffles? Especially when Em makes them.Everything always looked perfect about them, but they always tasted better. After looking through every outfit, I finally decided to just pick some plain, black clothes. I quickly change and throw my old clothes on the floor. After I put all my armor on and clip everything together. Now, I just need to find my knives. I scavenged my room for the next couple minutes. I probably just threw them somewhere since I was pretty tired after training yesterday. It was the last day to train before the big day. I'd made my room a mess while looking for them. Books were lying on the ground and everything had been scrambled. They had to be somewhere. Unless they weren't in my room at all . . . I sigh, then throw the blankets back onto the bed. I turn around and see the knives sitting in half darkness under the bed. I bend down on my knee and carefully pick them up by the blade. I put the strap that holds the knives around the thigh of my leg and slip each knife in their slot. I quickly put my hair in a braid, which turned out a bit messy, but that's fine! I'll fix it later. I opened the door and rushed down the stairs, almost tripping over my feet. Once I got down the stairs, I slowed down and walked to the table. I would have to wait a little bit for the waffles to cook anyway. I could have taken that time to secure the straps more, but I didn't know how long it would take to make the waffles. I sat down on the cold, wooden chair. I smelled the waffle batter cooking. I could hardly wait. "Waffles! Waffles! Waffles! Waffles!" I chant while hitting the table with my fists. "I'm almost done with them. Just be patient before I decide to give them to Soren instead! He's probably hungry, if not hungrier than you are right now." I shut my mouth. Soren doesn't deserve those waffles! "Didn't you eat two bags of chips last night before you went to bed?" She shot. I don't respond. I did eat three bags of chips last night. I could've probably eaten more if we had more. Though, she's still probably mad about it since they were her favorite kind of chips. I watch Remi while she's flipped the waffles onto the plate and sets the syrup drenched waffles down in front of me. She then puts another one on the table for herself. She then pours some milk and puts two glasses on the table. "When are you going to teach me how to cook?" I complained. "When I feel like it." She put the waffle iron by the sink to wash later after the tryouts. "You already taught Soren!" I protest. "No, I didn't. He taught himself. Probably reading those fancy cooking books or something." I take a giant bite out of one of the perfectly cooked waffles. "Oh, really?" "Yep." Remi said with a stuffed mouth. After a couple minutes, we finished our waffles. She puts the dishes in the sink. She runs back to her room to grab something. Then comes back, and starts to walk out the door. "Come on. Let's go!" She waves her hand at me. "Okay, coming." I follow her out to Soren's house.
