Renshu patted the boy thin shoulders, trying to get him to drop the puppet. However, the boy just hugs him closer.

Alright, let's try out this telepathy thing.

"Child, what's your name?"

The boy glanced at Renshu, quickly covering up the stitched mouth with his hand. "Shhh, please, please don't."

The candle went out with a puff. The room swallowed up in darkness.

The boy stiffened before trembling violently. His chest heaved, body jumping when the front door of the cabin slammed open.

Renshu leaned closer to the crack, spotting thick leather boots that stomped in the dining room in front of them. A large figure shrouded in a thick leather trench coat had it's back to them. A wide-brimmed hat covered the head that scanned the room. Turning around, a face shrouded in cloth kept the gender unknown however its eyes glowed like burning embers, a demonic air swirled around it.

Goosebumps ran up the boy's arms, He shrunk into himself, lower lip bleeding with the effort to keep the hysterical sobs under control.

Finishing its scan, it moved over to the wooden shelves full of jars and dried herbs. It ran its finger over them, then started searching the nearby cabinets.

System, what is this thing?

[....A witcher, Host. A predator of witches.]

Predator?

Its body disappeared into a room nearby and the boy stiffened, muscles bunching as he stared at the front door.

Warning bells rang in Renshu's head.

"Don't move. Shut your eyes. Be silent."

Blues eyes landed on Renshu. Feeling the gaze, Renshu continued.

"He will hear you if you run. Stay here. I will distract it."

The boy's bottom lip trembled, wide eyes overflowing with tears.

His head nodded rapidly and Renshu let the boy squeeze him tightly, so hard his wooden body creaked.

The witcher came out, turning towards the closet and grabbing the handle. Taking a deep breath, Renshu tried his telepathy, throwing out his voice far near the front door.

"Over here."

The witcher spun towards the front door.

A wave of relief came over Renshu. Thank the gods, it's just like using throwing voice in fox form.

No wait, forget the gods-thank the Great Renshu! Good job, Renshu! Those pervy gods did nothing!

[....]

Renshu peered as the witcher made way to the front door and peeked outside.

Renshu smiled and laughter filled the cabin, giggles high pitched and innocent.

"Over here.

Over here.

Over here."

The witcher spun, following the voice a few moments before letting out a roar. It was deep, guttural and seething with corruption. He threw a nearby glass jar, glass exploding and the liquid letting out a decaying stench.
