A separate AU that I couldn't stop thinking about for some reason?? Enjoy and merry Christmas :*

You walked through the food court of the mall, taking in all the delicious smells that filled your airways. You sighed, trying not to give in to those smells, knowing you had lunch waiting for you at home. Besides, you didn't think a pound of cookies or a bowl full of ice cream would sit well with your stomach, especially since you had a little bun in the oven. Well, two little buns.
You were focused on the sight of a little toddler asking his mom if he could ride one of the rides in the middle of the plaza when you bumped into someone. Your shoulder made contact with someone's chest and you were sent stumbling back, but you caught yourself easily.
"Oh my gosh, I'm sorry!" the person you had bumped into stated quickly. "I wasn't paying attention. Are you okay?"
You nodded, before smiling. "It's okay! I wasn't paying any attention, either, so don't take all the blame." You looked up and when you made eye contact with the person you bumped into, your heart stopped.
Jungkook's did, too. His breath hitched as he looked into your (E/C) eyes – the ones he could get lost in if he just glanced into them. He swallowed before scanning over you, taking in everything. He never thought he'd see you again. Not after he gave up on trying to contact you after his failed proposal at graduation. He felt his cheeks get hot as he stared at you in all your beauty. He had missed you. He had missed every piece of you and despite trying to forget about you and tell himself that you weren't ever going to take him back, he still loved you as he had back in high school. And seeing you now only reminded him of that love he had tried to push away.
You gulped as you looked at your high school sweetheart from years ago. It had been eight years since you had seen him, but he was still as handsome as ever. Only you were married to the love of your life now, and Jungkook was only some past relationship from way back when. You wondered if he was still head over heels for you as he had been, but the shopping bags in his hand told you that he had moved on, too. You were happy for him. You were glad the both of you hadn't let that failed proposal stop you from finding love. "Jungkook?"
"(Y/N)?"
You grinned before hugging him. He hugged back immediately. "Oh my gosh, how have you been? It's been ages."
Jungkook smiled before he pulled away to take you in again. He couldn't believe you were here in his arms again. He quickly glanced over you one more time, but something stuck out. He felt his stomach drop when his eyes landed on your inflated belly. It was obvious you were pregnant. And not only that, but your ring finger was occupied by a shiny diamond, one that seemed only fit for queens. Jungkook wished he could've bought you that. "Ah, yeah, it has been long. I've uh, been good. How about you?"
Your smile seemed to get brighter. "Great! Life has been treating me so well after high school. Not that it wasn't before, but everything has just gone so smoothly. Like out of a movie, almost."
Jungkook's heart ached. He hated knowing that he wasn't the one causing you to be this happy, and it killed him. Someone else was doing that for him. "Oh really? Well, tell me, then, about your life. We have eight years of catching up to do."
You giggled at his last sentence before you started rambling. You wanted him to know how happy you were with your life, hoping he was the exact same way. "Well, in my first year of college, I met my husband, Yoongi. And we dated for the entirety of our college years. Well, mine, because he dropped out the next year. And we got married after I graduated. I didn't go for what I originally intended, but Yoongi gets paid really well, so I don't really worry about the fact that I'm not a pediatric surgeon like teenage me wanted to be. He's a YouTuber, actually. I'm sure you know all about that."
Jungkook nodded. So you were married. "Uh, yeah, I think I've seen his name around. That's really nice, though. I'm glad you found the right one." I'm the right one, though.
"And just last week, we went for an ultrasound and we found out that we're expecting twins!" You put a hand on your belly as you said this and the diamond ring on your finger reflected the lights that hung in the mall. "One boy and one girl!" You sighed before looking up at Jungkook. "I don't think I could be happier."
The male in front of you gave you a small smile. "Congratulations, (Y/N). That's amazing."
You nodded. "So, how about you?" You gestured to the shopping bags he was holding. "Are you married to some supermodel? You definitely have the looks to pull that off. Oh, are you still making videos? I know how much you loved that back in high school. It was your passion, really."
Jungkook chuckled. "Uh, yeah, I still make videos. I guess I pretty much do the same thing your husband does. And I am dating someone." Jungkook quickly glanced to the floor, thinking of a quick lie. "She uh, makes me really happy."
Your heart swelled. "That's great, Jungkook. I'm really happy for you."
Jungkook nodded. "Same goes for you-"
"Jungkookie!" A voice called, followed by fast footsteps. Soon, a short blonde appeared by your ex. She latched her arm onto Jungkook's and looked at you with a smile but her eyes had a whole other story in them. "Who's this?"
"Oh, Minhee, meet (Y/N)," Jungkook introduced you two. "(Y/N), this is my girlfriend, Minhee."
You grinned. "Hi, nice to meet you! It must take a lot to put up with him, huh?"
Minhee gave a short, laugh that ended with a frown. "How do you know my boyfriend?"
"I went to high school with him," you looked up at Jungkook and as you stared into his deep, brown eyes, you remembered all the other times you had stared into them. For the first time after Christmas your freshman year in college, you missed him. "We were good friends."
Minhee nodded before tugging at Jungkook's arm. "I'm done now. Let's go eat." She began to walk off, dragging her boyfriend behind her.
"Uh, bye!" Jungkook shouted at you. He watched you wave bye and wish him a good day before he and his girlfriend walked out of the mall. As the two made their way to the car, he felt awkward.
After all this time, he hadn't realized the great lengths we went through trying to get himself to move on from you. He dated any girl that wanted him, hoping they'd distract him. He wouldn't keep them long, though, because they never satisfied him since they weren't you. That and they'd leave him after realizing he was "saving himself for marriage." He had really been saving himself for you, in case you came back to him. And every other girl seemed to only want him for fame. He felt disgusting at the end of the day. He felt bad for all the girls that genuinely wanted to love him, but he was too hooked on you to pay them the proper attention.
As for you, as you watched him walk off with someone you assumed he loved dearly, you felt tears prick your eyes. You missed him and all the memories you two had made together. However, you didn't return Jungkook's feelings for you anymore. You just wished you two could be good friends again. You wished you could text him during the day and ask him if he wanted to come over to watch a movie with Yoongi and his friends. You wanted him back in your life. "Maybe Minhee's the one for him," you muttered before walking off from the spot where you had been talking to Jungkook. You were buying some maternity clothes since you had to go to a nice dinner and none of your good clothes fit around your belly anymore. You glanced down at your wedding ring and felt your heartache.
Maybe in another life, we're still together and still in love.
