The loss of my two best friends hasn't hit me at full force yet.
For so long I've gotten through tough times on my own, with no one to lean on or to cry to. And now that my friends have started avoiding me in the hallways and giving me the silent treatment during classes. I realized that I honestly couldn't care less if they wanted to stay in my life or to leave me be.
I was fine without them. I've been fine without them.
When we won the soccer match, three to two yesterday against the boys team, Sam didn't congratulate me the way all his teammates did. Every boy shook hands with a girl and congratulated her, Timmy scooped me up into his arms and hugged me like I was the greatest soccer champion of all time. But Sam just walked into the locker room frustratedly and spoke to nobody.
He didn't even congratulate Halie, his own girlfriend.
Makes me wonder who he is anymore. The Sam I knew, and that I was friends with wouldn't be petty over things like a soccer game.
But it seems I was wrong about him.
When I enter the cafeteria at school today and grab myself some food, I notice that it is nosier than usual, and for some reason as I walk around all by myself I can't help but feel like everyone's eyes are trained on me and me alone.
I know no one could care less about me and my issues but I was used to walking in there with two friends by my side. Now I have no one by my side.
I dismiss the thoughts from my mind. I spot an empty table and head for it, and on my way towards it I catch Noelle staring at me. She leans over and whispers something to Sam who looks over at me and glares.
It was so childish and immature of them, that I almost laughed. But I didn't. I continued walking and holding my head up high and I took a seat at the empty table all on my own.
I don't mind being alone though. In fact I find it peaceful sometimes. If things were still good between me and Sam and Noelle I'd be sitting at their table and zoning out as they discussed stupid things that I couldn't bother caring about.
But today I was finally at peace. I didn't have to pretend to listen, pretend to care, pretend to smile and nod as they directed questions towards me.
I was done pretending.
Even if it kept order in my life I didn't want to fake it anymore. I need to accept that this is my new normal.
'Hey hey hey.' Timothée plops down in the seat in front of me and sets down his tray. He grabs his muffin and takes a bite out of it and then looks up at me, almost to check if I'm okay.
I smile at the small gesture. 'Hey.' I coo before reaching for my chocolate muffin as well. Seeing him sitting with me made me want to burst out into tears of joy. He had his own friends, his own table to sit at. But he chose to leave them and sit with me instead because he knows I'm not on good terms with Sam and Noelle.
'So, do you have anything planned today?Or are you free to go on a little adventure with me and Lola.' He asks whilst raising his eyebrows at me and I can see the little spark in his eyes as he speaks.
An adventure with him and his Jeep Cherokee sounded so perfect right now. 'I'm free now.' I say and Timothée furrows his eyebrows.
'Like now, now?' He asks putting his muffin down in surprise.
I nod. 'Yeah. Right now Timmy, come on.' He looks unsure but I lean forward slightly and I pout at him. 'Please.' I beg. 'I need to escape for a second and I have the next two periods with Sam and Noelle and I just can't d-'
