"Ori!" I screamed just as he latched onto Dori's foot.
Dori called out for Gandalf's help, as his hands slipped free from the tree he grabbed Gandalf's outreached staff. My own hold on the tree branch was weakening I didn't know how much longer I could hold on. That was when I saw Thorin stand up and start walking along the tree toward Azog. He began running, Orcrist above his head ready to attack. But Azog attacked first, his warg leapt forward and hit Thorin knocking him on his back. Thorin struggled to stand only to be knocked back again by Azog's mace. Bilbo climbed unsteadily to his feet and started down the tree toward the fight just as the white warg started crushing Thorin in his jaws.
"Thorin!" Dwalin screamed and tried to pull himself up to go to Thorin's aid.
He only succeeded in breaking the branch we were holding onto, my already weakened grip loosened completely and I fell. His hand grabbed mine at the last moment and he used all his force to swing me upward onto the trunk. I looked between him and Thorin who was now laying on a rock Azog sneering at him.
"Go Adara!" Dwalin looked into my eyes "Go help Thorin"
I tore my gaze away from him and ran towards Thorin pulling my axes from my back as I ran. I reached his side just as an orc was about to cut off Thorin's head. I dropped one of my axes and used both hands to slice through his sword arm. Just as Bilbo slammed into him and stabbed him in the chest. The rest of the Company charged into the fray and I picked up my second ax and joined them. I tried to mimic everything Dwalin was doing as best as I could during the fight. I had only had one lesson and was feeling woefully unprepared.
A screech filled the air and a huge eagle swooped down snatching a warg and his rider from right in front of me and dropped them off the cliff.More eagles appeared killing the orcs and picking up dwarves, at first I panicked when one of them lifted Thorin in his talons but once I saw that he wasn't going to hurt him but was indeed carrying him to safety I relaxed and waited to be carried off. An eagle's claws grasped me gently for only a few moments before dropping me. My heart leapt into my throat as I fell through the air. I landed on a soft, if a little slippery pile of feathers. I shifted around so I was facing forward and lay down on my stomach gripping his feathers tightly. I looked around and met Dwalin's eyes from where he flew clutching his eagle's feathers tightly only a few yards away. I sent him a small smile to let him know I was okay then closed my eyes resting my head on my eagle's back.
We flew for what seemed like hours before they set us down on a eyrie. We all rushed over to Thorin immediately. Gandalf was muttering over him. Dwalin turned and looked me up and down
"are you alright Adara?" I nodded "I" but my voice broke and all the events of the past couple of months caught up with me and my eyes welled up "No I'm not" I said weakly and a tear escaped and made a lazy trail down my sweaty, dirty face.
He simply wrapped his arms around me and held me close to his chest as he swayed slightly, petting my hair and murmuring comfortingly. The other dwarves averted their eyes not wanting to make me uncomfortable. I pulled away from him slightly and sniffed wiping my eyes with the back of my hand.
Thorin's eyes opened slowly "The Halfling?" He asked quietly as if he hadn't spoken in years.
"It's alright" Gandalf assured him"Bilbo is here and quite safe"
Thorin climbed to his feet and stalked towards Bilbo "You! What were you doing? you nearly got yourself killed! Did I not say that you would be a burden? That you would not survive in the wild? That you had no place among us? I have never been so wrong in all my life." He pulled Bilbo into a hug.
As they separated Thorin glanced at Dwalin and I. I blushed as I realized that he still had his arms around me and one of my hands was resting against his chest. Thorin smiled, then his gaze was caught by something behind us, we turned and I gasped.
"Is that the Lonely Mountain?"Dwalin nodded and I felt him intertwine his fingers with mine. I grinned widely and leaned my head on his shoulder.
The first movie is over! what did you all think?
