Life was more fun with Tomura for Izuku. He would wake up early in the morning and see the man with a light blue mop of hair sitting in their living room munching on breakfast.
They would go to the apple orchard every morning after eating and wait for Bakugou as usual and they would do little things while they wait.
At first it was just humming and a few shakes of the hip but soon it was full symphonies with the birds and twirls in the wind.
After the sun was sky high, Tomura would head back towards the cottage to watch Inko prepare medicine. Inko made him learn so he could dress his own wounds if he were to ever hurt himself again.
Inko would then leave for two hours with her basket and headed down the mountain towards the town village where the Bakugou's use to live. The rest of the villagers all knew her already and would say "Good afternoon Inko! Made another batch of -?"
The life was peaceful and getting better again for Izuku. He told himself, maybe it was okay to be emotionally attached to another person. Surely he won't leave too?
Time flew by and soon the end of Tomura's second year with the Midoriya's was approaching.
That season's medicine harvest was particularly good and Tomura decided to accompany Inko for once out of the forest and into the village. He helped carry most of the plants and they both hiked down the mountain while Izuku stayed home to practice baking an apple cinnamon pie for their tea later.
He wanted to improve his baking skills and this was one of his biggest challenges yet.
Inko smiled happily as she twirled down the forest path. Usually she would be holding two large baskets but Tomura offered to carry all of the medicine today and wasn't giving them back. She was so proud of him, he was like a son to her now.
She was proud to think of him like that.
But in a society where you are judged, Inko was questioned for being associated with Tomura once people noticed the Grim Reaper casually hanging behind them.
More judgemental questions came their way and Inko noticed the panic starting to arise with Tomura. She had to do something, for him.
She placed her basket down and summoned Attract. The villagers had never seen her familiar before but once they saw it, harsh stares pointed at them. Selkies weren't part of society, they were considered the familiar of savage tribal people, not civilized at all.
Murmurs spread as Inko's clear voice spoke up. She openly told everyone that her familiar is a Selkie but she doesn't mind. She was no longer part of her tribe and she lived with her two sons in the forest.
Tomura stopped panicking when he heard this and he looked up. Inko was smiling at him as she proudly called him her son. Tears pooled in his eyes and he clenched his fists. He wasn't going to cry, he was strong.
But the woman in front of him was stronger. Inko told everyone that he just happened to have an odd familiar, that he had a heart of gold. And that he was one of the best sons she could've ever asked for.
Emotions he didn't know existed welled again. He wanted to hide away but couldn't move as as Inko continued her speech.
By the end, there was thunderous clapping as the villagers cheered for her speech about equality and diversity.
That moment made Tomura smile, but also frown as he realised, by living with them he would cause Inko and Izuku trouble. He knew Selkies weren't accepted in society and a violent bubbling filled him when he noticed this. He was angry.
He needed to change that he thought. He never wanted to do anything for others before but... He will do it for Inko and Izuku... his true family.
But being a good man wouldn't get him noticed... He had to be...
famous...
infamous...
He would be a villain...
That evening, after he and Inko cheered at Izuku's wonderful pie, he sat in his room staring into the sky.
The moon stared back with a lonely glow before his door creaked open. Green curls bounced into the room and droopy eyes smiled at him as Izuku hopped over in a warm blanket.
They exchanged a few lines of Izuku being worried as Tomura seemed a bit sad today.
But he had already decided. He was going to protect Izuku and Inko.
That night, as Tomura tucked Izuku into bed and snuggled close for warmth, he made a vow.
He would grow up as the greatest villain of all time and then meet them again in a decade.
And by then, he would've changed society for them. He would've created a place they could call home without having to hide. A place where his family can be happy. He swore. He will protect them.
That night as he gently patted the tangled mess of the forest scented hair, Tomura revisited all his memories. From when he first met Izuku and saved him from the falling branch. To when he and Inko made lunch together and prepared an afternoon picnic. To when he and Izuku would wait by the apple trees and procrastinate their morning away singing songs and twirling in the wind.
He thought about the past two year all the way to earlier that day, when Inko called him her son for the first time and told the whole village.
That night, as he hugged the warm body of the snoring cinnamon roll, Tomura cried the tears that had been held back for the two years.
He wept as the feelings all broke free.
But he was ready.
He will change the world for them.
The next morning, Tomura had disappeared from the Midoriya's, leaving only a small note saying that he would return, one day.
