Chapter 9
We opened the country style door to reveal a very vintage, country home inside. With a fireplace in the far right corner encircled by a couple of chairs and a family photo of her, grandpa and mum when they were younger. The kitchen was huge with a huge gas oven and it’s about the size of a living room. I see my grandma, hovering over the pot of what smells like chicken soup. But it wasn’t like the stuff that you buy at the store, it was real chicken soup. Just the way I like it.
“Mum, were here!” I heard my mum say as she entered the kitchen.
Grandma turned around in delight and hurried over to give us the giant hugs that grandma’s usually give. She stretched my cheeks so hard that she left red marks and she turn to my mum.
“How have you been darling?” She asked.
“Yeah we have been fine mum.” Mum answered.
“That’s great lovely” Nan said.
“Now when are you leaving for the clinic?” She added.
“In about 3 days” Mum answered.
“Well that’s give us a lot of time to get used to America! Oh yeah, where is Scar going to stay? Have you organised something yet. I would offer her to stay here…but im sure she would want to stay somewhere where she would be close to friends and close to school.” Nan said.
“She is going to stay in the city with Aunty Grace, im going to go down tomorrow and talk to the schools and get an enrolment form.” Mum answered.
“Well I guess that’s okay. You bedrooms are down the hall, pick which one you like, It doesn’t matter because they are both the same.” Nan finally finished.
I grabbed my bags and travelled down the hall with white walls and a wooden panel floor and I reach the end of the pathway. I turned in the nearest bedroom to see a massive modern like bed, white walls and there was even a TV. This bedroom also had a walk in wardrobe and a separate bathroom. I checked the other room and it was nearly identical. The only thing was the size; the first room I searched was bigger than this one. I suggested to mum that I take the smaller one to give her more space. She thanked me and told me to unpack before dinner.
I finished rather quickly, mainly because there wasn’t much too even unpack but also I was super excited about going into the city tomorrow to look at the schools available.
“Dinner’s ready!” Nan called out down the hall.
“Coming!” Mum and I said in unison.
We arrived in the dining room to see a huge table with a delicious looking Sunday Roast including lamb, beef, pork, chicken soup, mash potato and many more side dishes. Mum and I sit at the table in astonishment.
“Eat as much as you like; I have enough to feed the country!” Nan chuckled.
Mum and I both laughed, grabbed our plates and started to grab as much food as we could. I ate so much food that I thought my stomach would explode!
We all decided to get an early night because we had a big day of going to the city tomorrow, we were going to take Nan’s car because Nan had to do farming at home anyway.
