----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the day, the day we leave our old life behind and create a new meaningful one half war across the world, in America.

I helped Mum with the last of the luggage which wasn’t a lot because you had donated most of it.

As I approach the car, I look behind me, not knowing what’s going to happen next. As I waked to the car I turn my head to take one last look of my old life, and that was the day we were forced to decide to move to America.

“Come on Scarlett, were going to be late” Mum yelled as I rushed to the car, put my luggage in the back and sat in the front seat.

I wound down the window and turned to see Josie standing there, not moving forward or backwards, just staring at me with teary eyes. Mum gets in the driver’s side and turns on the car and slowly puts the car in acceleration.

“Mum, wait.” I exclaimed as I turned to her, turned back to Josie and opened the door.

I ran to her with teary eyes, wrapped my skinny arms around her and squeezed as hard as I could.

“You know I will never forget you and always remember me” I said as I hugged her tighter while tears fell down my face.

“Don’t cry you idiot!” She said as she shoved me off.

“…You’re going to make me cry.” She said as she covers her face.

“So now were both crying?” I suddenly plunged at her and hugged her as my tears rolled down my cheek.

“I know it’s a very sad moment Scar, but if we don’t leave now we will be late for the plane.” She yelled out the window.

“I guess I have to go.” I groaned as I look in her teary eyes.

She smiled, grabbed my hand and lifted my chin.

“It’s alright sport; everything will be okay in the end!” She smirked.

“Just don’t forget to call me when you get there! Even if the time difference means you call me at 2 in the morning, I will still pick up!” She added as she turned me around and pushed me toward the car.

“Now go! Before I try and drag you back!” She raised her voice, but not aggressively, sweetly.

I turned back one last time and smirked. This was the last time I would get to see her. I was really leaving. ‘This is it’, ‘Don’t back down now’, ‘Mum needs you’…..these words kept piercing my heart.

I opened the door and slid into the passenger seat I smiled at mum and signalled to start the car. The car slowly started to accelerate; bit by bit I was getting further and further away from her but all I could do was wave. As we drove down the street, Josie was getting smaller and smaller, getting more out of my sight until we turned the corner and that was it. Tears streaming down my face I turned to mum.

“It’s okay, everything is going to be okay, you guys can talk all you want when we get over there, I bet you guys can still be in touch. She can even come over in the holidays, plus im sure you are going to makes heaps of friends at your new school.” She said quite cheerfully.
