-FLASH BACKS-
*DEEP IN THE RAINFOREST*
"Sir it's going to be dusk soon, we should get the team rounded up and start heading back to camp before we lose our trail." A short, slender man, with shoulder length, messy, brown hair and white framed glasses commented while holding a clipboard in one hand and a brown rugged satchel in the other.
"Oh Akio, you worry far to much. *sigh* Alright, I suppose we've got plenty of samples today. But first thing in the morning we set out and cover more ground than we did today, remember we have a deadline. Round up everyone, Akio, while I finish up this last one."
"Thank you, right away Mr. Nakashima."
"Ah, for the thousandth time just refer to me as Katsu, Mr. Nakashima is just way to formal, we've been working together for a year, maybe longer. Were friends after all, wouldn't you agree?" The 6'4, rugged man with slicked jet black hair asked.
A small chuckle escaped akio's mouth," Im sorry, I don't think I will ever be comfortable while referring to you as 'Katsu', sir. I respect you far to much" The slender man replied as he pulled out his phone and sent out the notifications to the rest of the team, gathering them all up.
"Alright, whatever makes you happy I guess" Katsu laughed while capping the last vile of DNA that he collected from a small monkey.
"That was nearly 4 years ago.."
"At last, we have the DNA of every animal and insect we said we would get! It took a little over 3 1/2 very long and exhausting years, but we did it!" Katsu said proudly as he grinned ear to ear holding up a glass of champagne. This, Ladies and Gentlemen, is the future! We finally have everything to win this war!! But of course non of this wouldn't have been possible without my amazing team! The blood, sweat and tears that we've shed these fast few years weren't for nothing, I promise you! Now lets enjoy our evening shall we.
"TO THE FUTURE!" Everyone cheered and downed their glass.
-Memory Ends-
"So that evening was fine, everyone was happy and enjoying themselves. What was it that made you walk towards the roof top." A female investigator asked Mr. Sato.
"Well when you work with someone for so many years and get put with that one person who you're constantly around, you start to get to know their patterns, when they are annoyed, sad, upset, every little detail, you recognize without yourself even knowing some times.. So with Katsu... he could have on the worlds most happiest smile but.. His eyes.. It was always his eyes that gave it away each time. He's the kind of man that when something is on his mind he finds the most quietist spot to do some thinking, what better place than a rooftop in a busy warehouse that had hundreds of working people from the top to our underground area..
So that's when I stepped outside to the roof top.. I can remember the silence that surrounded us from that night, the air was crisp, a small breeze that danced around us sending chills down my spine, I knew something was off, I just didn't know how off.. "
"Sir, shouldn't you be inside with the others celebrating, you've been waiting years for this moment" Akio asked the distracted man who was looking off into the city as he leaned against the concrete walls.
"You always know where to find me don't you" Katsu smiled "I was just thinking what if our project doesn't work. We've been at war for many years now, our troops are fighting endlessly to protect us. Akio, we took 3 almost 4 years trying to complete this one task.. What if we're too late.. I mean what if the hard work we did was for-"
"Mr. Nakashima Im going to stop you right there. The war that's happening now has been going on for 10 plus years now, so no we are not to late. Any difference, even the smallest will help. But sir.. I have a feeling this will be the end of our war. I can feel it in my bones."
A small smile crossed Katsu's face as he turned towards Akio and stretched out his hand and shook it.
"I'm glad to have you as my 2nd in command during this task, you truly are a great friend, thank you. For everything."
"So you two were close then? Did Mr. Nakashima ever show signs of being someone who was capable of such destruction? Any signs of evil intent farther down the line of this new research you and your company were attempting?" The woman investigator pressed.
"No. He was a great man. But after that night during the incident, he was.. unrecognizable at that point. Its like a switch inside his brain flipped, and all the good he wanted to do.. it- it just wasn't him anymore. Next thing I remember I was being rushed through the hospital beds. Im sorry I haven't been much help ma'am. My memory is still very fuzzy."
"That's quite alright, sir. If you remember anymore about that night please give us a call." She replied while handing him her business card.
"Ah, Risa, Akiyama.. As in Rin Akiyama?" Akio asked as he looked up at the woman in shock.
"Yes, Im his daughter, Risa." The woman with long, green, wavy, hair and emerald eyes replied with a small smile.
"What an honor to be questioned by the daughter of the towns number 1 investigator! Im sorry for your fathers passing though, he was a hero. It was such a pleasure meeting you"
"Thank you Mr. Sato, feel better soon." She replied while walking out the room door.
"Finally! What took you so long Risa? Was he being stubborn?" A man dressed in a full black suit, with short rust color hair and piercing sapphire eyes asked as he stood from his seat in the hall.
"Not at all, he was very cooperative, spoke about 'The Hideyo Company' that they worked for but not to much details on what we need to know exactly, some of the things he said helped me understand Katsu Nakashima a bit more though." Risa said as she handed her partner, Eito, her notepad that had the information Akio gave her.
"Don't worry kid, we'll figure out why everyone's getting these crazy animal abilities and body parts soon enough. It's only week 1, so not to many villain's are out terrorizing the place. Plus have you seen the news the past couple days? Some citizens are taking on the Hero roll, some pretty cool abilities are being captured on film and shown on the news lately. Maybe this is a good thing?" Eito said opening up her car door
"I hope so, Eito." Risa replied as she slid into the car, stuck in her thoughts.
