What it's about: Lucy Heartfilia decides to cut her hair because she wants to feel different and not just live in her boyfriend's shadow.

————————————————————

Stringing the hair from her comb, she took the remainder of the hair that was piled in the wretched comb and threw it in the trash bin by the sink. She was thinking of whether or not she should do something to her hair or not, and cutting it sounded like the best idea.

She'd had her hair in the same long, pinned-up hairstyle for almost two years, and it got immensely boring. Her hair was starting to get on her nerves with it being so long and such. So it was a good idea to finally do something about this.

She'd had her hair in the same long, pinned-up hairstyle for almost two years, and it got immensely boring. Her hair was starting to get on her nerves with it being so long and such. So it was a good idea to finally do something about this.

Her thoughts were racking her brain so heartily that Lucy couldn't help but think that her hair was something of her own — something that she could feel herself in.

These thoughts usually clouded her mind whenever Natsu was gone. However, this time, he was gone for much longer than planned. This led to an outburst of uncontrollable sadness; she thought that if Natsu was here — and not gone at a two-month-long period — he would coax her out of this. But it was too late now.

Her brush went to the counter in an attempt to grab the scissors with the same hand. Her hands unraveled the bright pink scissors with a loose grip, almost as if to tell her self that she can stop at any moment she wanted to. Instead of residing with the possible decision of releasing the instrument, she decided to grip even harder, knowing that she needed to do this.

Asking for help from her friend, Cancer, would've been an awful idea because he knows when she's being irrational — just like all of her spirits, he cared. And she knew that she was being slightly petty, so Cancer would've done something to meld her mindset. However, with Natsu not coming home and all, she knew that she had to do this.

The bright pink of the scissors didn't do anything to give her good thoughts. They taunted her.

She brought her hand up to meet her blonde hair. It was in disarray from the lack of brushing. Lucy then unclasped them with a medal-y noise.

Before she could do anything, a loud sigh came throughout their living room with a clunking noise soon to follow. When they first started to date, the idea of moving in with each other was a talked-about thought, so that led to them living in his house — making her clean everything...again.

She dropped the scissors on the counter, but before she could do anything, she cut off a piece of hair. The hair fell on the — dusted — counter, making tears well in her eyes. Her hair...was gone. It was a piece that was so close to her chin, and that was a chilling thing. She knew that he'd notice.

"Hey, Luce?" Her nickname rang through the tiny house.

She ran out of the bathroom, sobbing, over to her boyfriend. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She jumped into his arms, crushing him down onto their couch.

This boggled his mind a little. "Is everything okay?"

Everything wasn't okay. "No. I'm sorry."

What could she have possibly done to be this mad at herself?

"For what?"

A stray tear ran down her cheek as she raised her head from his chest. His bare chest was now soaked, but he didn't mind.

"Why're you sorry for that?" He didn't seem to be too fazed by her hair being halfway chopped off. "Did someone force you to do this?"

"No... It's just, I wanted something different...something to make me stand out more from you." She sniffed.

"Lucy. . . So did you not want to cut your hair?" He hated the feeling that she wasn't feeling okay and that he couldn't help.

"No. I wanted to, I just never t-told you about this." Her tears seemed to be welling up again. "I'm sorry, Natsu."

"Well if you wanted to cut your hair, you don't have to ask me permission. I don't own your hair," he said with a laugh. "If you still want to, we can cut the rest just to make it all even."

She sighed. How could she have managed to get so lucky? "Can we?" Her grip on his vest loosened.

"Of course. Let's go." The pink-haired man picked her up steadily and rushed to their bathroom.

He set her down on the sink and picked up the scissors that had previously cut some of her hair off. "So how short do you want it?"

"Wait, who said I was gonna let you cut my hair?" She giggled. Somehow his presence never ceased to make her giddy.

"Oh, well, I just thought that you didn't want to do it yourself," he trailed off.

"No, it's fine, Natsu. I'd honestly rather let you do this than me." She pecked his cheek.

His smile returned. "Alrighty then! How short do you want it?" He clipped the scissors a few times, almost looking like he was about to cut off one of his limbs. "Here?" He pointed to her shoulders. "Here?" He then pointed to her neck. "Or maybe even here." He pointed to her ear. "You'd look adorable either way, I just want you to feel good."

His rambling was one of the many things that she loved about him. The way he could always make her smile.

"I was thinking maybe, just below my jawline."

"Comin' right up!" He grabbed her hair and went to work.

It kind of surprised her how good he was at this thing. It almost made her wonder if he cut his hair himself. That was probably the case since he refused to do anything that involves looking his best. But Lucy always thought he looked his best even when he looked like a madman.

Once he was done gracefully cutting her hair, he looked at her for a solid few seconds. He loved how it compliments her features and makes everything that makes her unique stand out even more. This was a great idea.

She glides her hands along the sides of her, searching for the newfound length. She could feel the lack of hair and it felt kind of foreign.

"Thanks, Natsu." She sounded very emotional, almost like she was about to cry again.

"Hey, do you not like it?" He wanted so desperately for her to love it. Besides, she was perfect.

"No...I'm sorry, but I feel weird." She looked at the hardwood floor.

"You don't look weird. You look beautiful. I just think you need some time to get used to your new self. But if you don't like it soon, we'll I'll just have to force you to like it." However, he didn't know how he was going to do that, but all he needed to know was how amazing she looked — with or without hair.

"Oh~ and how're you gonna do that." Well, she seemed to perk up quickly.

"You'll just have to see." He pressed his face onto her neck, kissing it tenderly. He loved everything about her.

"Can you guys stop being so lovey-dovey?" A high-pitched voice asked. "It's gross."

"Well sorry Happy, but I just wanted to tell my girlfriend how beautiful she is." He turned his face back to her, pecking her lips.

"Barf!"
