Chapter 2x2 - The First Quest

"Stop making yourself at home!" Kayn shouted in annoyance as he saw Zane lying on the couch. Apprehensively Zane quickly sat up with a sweat drop on his forehead. Hayami stepped in the room exhausted as her chest rose and fell with rapid breaths. She asked with a smile.
"Guys... we're running short on coins. Kayn, can you take a quest? "
Kayn's eyes lightened up, and he stood up from the couch and said.
"About time!"  Kayn held out his palm, and after a while, a dagger began to form. Kayn chuckled, and Zane with glimmering eyes quickly said
"You can use storage magic!" Kayn chuckled once again after hearing that. Zane scratched his head and asked Kayn 
"Can I also come?" Kayn quickly answered.
"N-" interrupted by Hayami that said proudly with a grin on her face.
"That's a great idea! You guys can get coins together!"
Kayn sighed and said
"Fine, Just don't get in my way" Zane quickly stood up from the couch and ran towards the door. As he stepped outside and he immediately noticed where he was. 
"A-are we in the black circle city?" Kayn nodded. Zane glanced over at the city, and with sparkling eyes, he jumped up and down.
Kayn sighed as he walked ahead of him. Zane followed behind as he looked at all the different markets and buildings with excitement. He quickly realized something and said.
"Wait, I don't have a weapon," nervously.
Kayn sighed and said with a mad expression on his face
"Just let me do the work," Zane nodded as he accepted the decision.

"Here it is!" Kayn said as he glanced over at a humongous building in the center of the city.
"I-Is this the hunter's hub?!" Zane shouted in excitement. Kayn embarrassed, answered by nodding with minimal eye contact. They both gazed at all the people as they stepped into the building. Hundreds upon hundreds of different creatures were fighting, training, and talking. They approached a big board with a sign on top that said, 'Tier I.' Kayn stared at all the different papers stuck to the board.
"Too easy..." Kayn said as he moved to the next board that said 'Tier II.' He once again checked all the papers until he got stuck onto one. The paper was in the middle with a unique spot that said 'Featured Quest.'
Zane watched as Kayn inspected it.

'Jagras has been slaying loads of animals that we use as food in the Ancient Forest. The reward of killing one Jagra is 20 copper coins + the materials. This reward will be multiplied by how many Jagras you'll slay.'

Kayn nodded and put the palm of his hand on the surface of the paper. A faint light appeared and came into sight. As the light faded away, a stamp appeared 'Ongoing - Kayn.'
Zane's amazement could be seen as his chin trembled and eyes flashing.
As they both ran out of the hub, Zane looked at Kayn and asked
"What quest was that?" Kayn still with excited eyes answered
"We're gonna hunt a rank one flame Jagra" Zane tilted his head as he asked 
"What's a Jagra?" Kayn sighed as he rubbed his head. 
"A Jagra is from the Fanged Wyvern species. They are small monsters that are weak but quick. They are usually in packs, and they will ambush any enemy that they classify as killable," Kayn said proudly.
Zane, with wide eyes and his jaw, dropped to the ground, stared at Kayn.
Kayn blushed as he realized how he sounded, and they proceeded to walk in silence.

A distant screech echoed throughout the Ancient Forest. Both of their eyes swiftly flicked towards the sound. Kayn said whispering
"That's the Jagras, but I think that they are fighting," Zane answered, saying
"We should check it out." Kayn nodded, and they both crept their way towards the sounds with narrowed eyes.
As they made their way through the bushes, they stuck their head out and noticed four Jagras with razor-sharp teeth. They were shaped like a wolf and had light green and blue scales on their bodies. Small flames erupted throughout their tail. They seemed to be staring at something. Zane and Kayn followed the Jagras sight as they quickly noticed a middle-aged man with black hair and a green circlet around his forehead. Covered in green clothes, the man struggled to stand up as he had claw marks all over his body. Blood slowly dripping onto the ground. The man held out his fist with a green fog covering it.
Zane, with widened eyes, knew he had to do something. Kayn whispered
"Who is that?" They both stood confused with a wrinkled nose. Both wondering what he was.
"We need to help him either way!" Zane whispered. He saw a stick on the ground and quickly took a grab around it. Just as Kayn was about to shake his head, Zane silently ran towards the Jagras and swung the stick. The Jagra fell to the ground with its back smashed. Kayn, with widened eyes, realized how strong a hit that was. He shook his head and sighed as he ran beside Zane. Kayn threw his dagger at lightning speed, stabbing the Jagra in between its eyes. A loud thud echoed as the Jagra fell to the ground as it panted rapidly. 
The last two Jagras watched as their pack died. Terrified, they ran quicker than ever deep into the forest.

Kayn pulled the dagger out of the Jagra and sheathed it. The other Jagra was still alive but unable to move. Zane repetitively stomped on its head with closed eyes. Blood dripped down out of the open wound onto the ground. Zane smiled happily with gazing eyes as he stared at Kayn. He held his hand up, expecting a high five. After a moment, Kayn sighed and rubbed his forehead. The smile faded away as they both looked at the mysterious man. Wide eyes with the whites showing and a gaping jaw, the man, stared at the two boys.
"T-T-Thanks," The man stuttered. Zane scratched his head as he smiled. Kayn asked
"Who are-" interrupted as a loud and strange giggle traveled through the forest. Kayn's eyes widened with fear as he knew what that was.
