My entire body froze as I exited Niall's bathroom.

I had heard Em come through the door so I took an extra few moments to gather myself. Seeing her was always jarring for me. A rush of emotions that ended up taking me out for the rest of the day.

But as I opened the door, I heard her say it. A date. She'd gotten asked out on a date.

It occurred to me at that moment just how unprepared I was for this eventuality even though I knew damn well it would come one day.

I stood outside the kitchen, listening as Niall spoke to her about it.

"What's this dude's name?" He asked, his tone one of disapproval.

Niall would always be my favorite.

"Charlie. He's 23 and he just graduated Uni."

"Does he have a job?" Niall asked, still disapproving.

"Yeah. He works at a coffee shop."

Niall burst out laughing,

"A coffee shop? And now he's askin' ya out t'one? So he gets the discount?"

Emily grunted,

"Niall..." She warned.

"Alright, alright." He sighed, "I think you should go, Em."

NIALL! I screamed out in my head. NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Niall was supposed to speak for me when I couldn't. He had no idea the feelings I had for Emily nor what had happened between us. But he had always been disapproving of any male around her other than us. And now this?

Betrayal. I felt clear betrayal.

I walked around the corner then, interrupting their conversation. Emily's body stiffened a bit,

"You didn't tell me anyone was here." She commented.

Niall raised his eyebrows and shrugged,

"Harry's here, Em."

I gave a haphazard wave of my hand and grabbed one of the sandwiches Niall made,

"Hey."

She pushed her hair off her face,

"Anyway. I need you to babysit."

Niall shook his head, his mouth full of his sandwich,

"Uh uh. I got the studio."

Emily stomped her foot and whined. I'd never actually seen her do that before. It pissed me off. She must really wanna go out with this loser.

"Nialllllll." She whined, "C'mon. You can take her with you."

"It's not that kinda recordin' tonight, Em. I can't do it."

"I can do it." I heard myself say.

God, even my own mouth was betraying me. My ridiculous need to make sure Emily always got what she wanted was resulting in her going out on a date with someone who wasn't me.

Fabulous.

Emily looked over at me,

"Yeah? You guys haven't spent a lot of time together lately. I think she'd really like it."

I kept my eyes on my sandwich, afraid if I looked at her I'd blurt out that she was supposed to be dating me, not some idiot she met at a grocery store,

"Yeah."

Emily clapped excitedly, jumping forward to press a kiss to my cheek which sent shockwaves to my toes,
