Inside and out

The execution

A year goes by and Theo finally finishes digging the hole to the other side of the fence. It's dinner time; Theo finds Elaine to tell her the good news. They both sat down, and ate their rations for the day.  They both lean in to make sure the guards aren't watching and proceed to discuss the news.

"The hole is finally done we can leave! As soon as we are out we are heading for the United States!" He excitedly states

"Great! I can't believe we are actually going to do this!" Elaine says excitedly

Coming to realization she asks "Now how am i going to be able to get out? We didn't think this through."

Theo thinking frantically realizing that she was right hadn't thought this through he grabs a napkin so they can both jot down ideas.

"I have an idea! Why don't I come with you to your bunk tonight; we will both be able to have a chance to go outside without being caught. We can escape right before dinner; it will be dark enough that no one will notice we are gone." She thought

"How are you going to come to my bunk women aren't allowed?" Theo asked

"You can hardly tell what gender I am my head is shaved like everyone else, and we all blend in at this point." Elaine pointed out

Theo agrees and it's time to head to their bunks. Elaine sneaks in with Theo without any suspicion. They head to sleep for the night. The next day they stick to the plan and begin to head outside for work. They work throughout the day, and it's evening they begin to uncover the hole. Out of nowhere a whistle sound arises; Theo and Elaine look at each other confused.

"This has never happened before." Theo worried

"We never had to take showers before either." Elaine stated worried

The guards shout "EVERYONE HEAD TO THE SHOWERS." the guards patrol the outdoors  to make sure everyone comes in. Theo and Elaine quickly cover the hole; the guards push them forward with everyone else. Theo remembered he had saw someone wearing gas masks before; he had a bad feeling that something bad was going to happen. Theo grabs Elaine's hand, and Elaine held on to him tightly. They head in the shower room; the guards demanded that everyone had to take their clothes off. Theo stood in front of Elaine in hopes she wouldn't get caught in the shower room with all the men. The shower room felt small, everyone was crushed inside. The guards turned on the showers, Elaine and Theo had realized there's no water running. "IT'S A TRAP GET OUT!" Elaine shouted people were cramming at the door in hopes they could bust their way out. It had felt like heavy air coming through. It became harder to breathe; people started to fall to the ground. People coughing and suffocating. Everyone holding on to their last breath, they fought for every second they had. Elaine and Theo fall to the floor holding each other. They fell lifeless; the room full of people who once fought for their lives. Stripped clothes everywhere.
