The long and gruesome day goes by and it's dinner time. They eat the same thing as yesterday but the bread instead of half a loaf it's only a slice and the soup is in a smaller bowl. Theo and Elaine eat their rations and sit down to discuss the escape plan. They lean in close so the guards don't hear the plan. Theo gets out the napkin and hands it to Elaine. On the napkin it shows the outdoors of the camp; it shows intricately drawn bunks being built.
"What's our plan?" Elaine asks
"We are digging our way out; if we go over the fence we will be shot on sight. They never miss a shot believe me I've seen it." Theo stated
Theo shows her where he is planning on digging; he explains that he will be working on this while he is building the bunks.
Elaine pauses for a moment taking time to think what to say. "What can I do to help?" Elaine asks
Theo looks at her and sighs; he holds her hands and in a concerned tone he sates "There's nothing you can do; if you are caught outside you will be shot Elaine... I can't let anything happen to you."
"I need to do something at least I-." She interrupts her own statement "how long is this even going to take?!" She asked worried.
"Months... maybe even a year, but we have no other option. If we don't make it out alive; it will not go in vain we died trying. Someone will regret the actions they've done to these innocent people." Theo said
Elaine nods and agreed with him "ok I'm in" she says trying to hold back her tears. Theo looks out to make sure the guards aren't looking he hugs her.
"We can do this; it's going to take time and we will have to fight everyday of our lives for this, but we will make it out." Theo tells Elaine
The bell goes off and everyone proceeds to the bunks. Elaine sleeps peacefully knowing that one day they will be able to get out of here.
