Chapter Seven

"Wait a minute there!" I shouted as I got stuck on the last step of the staircase.
I ran downstairs and looked straight into my mother's eyes.
"You killed him." I said.
"What?! No, I did not. I can assure you on that." she said embarrassedly.
"What? Mother? How can you tell Carly?" Steve shouted with surprise.
"I demand an explanation" Steve said.
"Look at the results!" I said confidently.
"You were behind this for so long and you didn't tell us?" I said with tears.

A few minutes later, the police officers were outside the house in large groups. They destroyed the whole front door with their legs and immediately arrested Mother.

"Mum!!!" Steve yelled with an abundant amount of tears on his face.
Connor was looking at her with his mouth forming a shape of an O. He was shocked at how the police officers knocked down the front door.
Steve ran towards as if he were a baby coming towards his mother.
He ran and embraced me with a lot of strength and pulled me down with him.
"What are we gonna do?" Steve yelled frantically.
"We will stay calm until we will find out what will happen." I said doubtlessly.
"I can't live without Mum!" Steve yelled.
"Connor! Are you gonna stay home with us?" I asked pleasantly.
"Ummm... Nah. I got an apartment down the street. But I'll visit to make sure everything is ok." he said in doubt.

I began to feel like I'm surrounded by evil spirits trying to torture me.
The time quickly passed and it was already night time. Steve barely fell asleep whereas Connor was gone and I was in my room alone. An hour later, I got a phone call from Mother.

"Carly! I'm glad you picked up." she said with relief. "Carly! You need to get me out of here! I swear I didn't do this. Just get me out of here." she said tragically.
"Mum! I love you but we have to respect the law. The police have to find out if for sure it wasn't you." I said smartly.
"Carly! Get me out NOW! I'm innocent." Mother said terrified.
"Yeah. Sure mum. That's what all the prisoners say. Sorry Mum. I love you and Good Night." I said calmly.
"Carly! No.." she said and I hung up.
Slowly. Days pass. Steve and I stay home worried and thinking what we can do.
Connor just got in the house.
"Hey guys! Are you okay?" he said happily.
"Leave me alone Connor!" Steve shouted.
"Whoa! Easy boy." Connor said foolishly.
"What are you doing here?" I asked curiously.
"Oh. Just to come see you." he said stupidly.
"Just go. Connor, just go." I said .

As soon as Connor got out of the house, the phone rang.

"Carly! Hi. It's officer Kevin." he said smoothly.
"Oh hi! How are you?" I asked cheerfully.
"Yeah. I'm ok. Come on down to my office fast. I have something very urgent. It's an emergency." he said suddenly.
"Ok. I'll be there in ten minutes." I said worriedly.
As I hung up, Steve asked:
"Who was that? What happened?" he asked anxiously.
"It was officer Kevin. We need to get to his office." I said.

Carly and Steve were running during the big storm and finally arrived at the police station.

"Officer Kevin? I asked desperately.
"Carly. It's good to see you. Now. There seems to be bad news." he said sadly.
"Bad News? Like what?" My brother and I asked together.

"The killer isn't your mother." he said.
