Sighing, you urged your horse to quicken its pace. The sun was going to set soon, and you heard that in this area there were wild beasts and wolves. You weren't going to risk Land Slide getting hurt, so it was best to hurry up and get to a village. That's when you noticed the two figures in front of you. Squinting closer, you could see a mixture of blue and green. That's when you realized who they were. You remembered them.
Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli. The Gyro one had been stripped of his first place and penalized in the first stage. And the Johnny guy, you realized he paralyzed from his waist down, yet he was still able to do so well in the race. You had to applaud him... maybe you should try to strike up a conversation. Speaking of conversations, while you were lost in your thoughts, you didn't realize that you were practically right behind them... and that Johnny and Gyro were talking to you.
"Oi, are you going to say something?!"
The loud tone of voice snapped you out of your thoughts as you looked up and saw two expectant faces staring at you. Shit. Why did you find yourself in these awkward situations?
"Y-yes? Did you n-need something?" you stuttered.
Gyro and Johnny shot each other a look, both narrowing their eyes. Gyro motioned at his friend, and Johnny shot him another glare.
"You're (Y/N) (L/N), right? The woman who got 5th place in the first stage?" Johnny asked.
You perked up and a huge smile appeared on your face. Wow, you couldn't believe it! One of the best competitors in the race knew your name! Bashfully, you tucked a lock of hair behind your ear.
"Y-yea, that's me. And you're Mr. Joestar and he's Mr. Zeppeli, right?"
Both of them had a momentarily look of shock cross their face and quickly disappear
"Um, yes, but you can drop the 'Mr.' You can just call me Johnny and this guy Gyro."
"I see. You can call me (Y/N) then, o-only if you want though," you smiled shyly.
Johnny slowed his horse down and motioned to you to ride next to him. Gladly accepting his invitation, you guided Land Slide to the side of Johnny.
"Oi, Johnny, what the hell are you doing? What are we going to do if she-" Gyro tugged Johnny closed and let out an angry whisper at him.
"Calm down Gyro! I know what I'm doing. She's not a bad person, I can tell."
Sighing, you scratched your head awkwardly. They did know that you could hear them, right? You'd been foolish to think they would trust you immediately, but you didn't blame them. No one in their right mind would trust someone blindly and so quickly. In the midst of their bickering, you could hear a thumping sound coming from behind you. Looking back behind you, you nearly choked on air.
"Um, g-guys?"
The two men turned their heads to you, and then looked in the direction your eyes were. Similarly, their expression turned to one of surprise and shock.
"Johnny, it's him! It's Dioooo!"
Judging from their tones, you could tell that these men did not like Diego. Their bodies were tense, as if they were preparing for a confrontation. They were already telling each other to be prepared and to not drop their guard.
By this point, Diego had already caught up and was riding side by side with all three of you.
"Hey, come on guys... don't take it that way! Let's stay at the small village up ahead, camping out is a bad idea."
The three of you continued to look at him dubiously.
"There are beasts in the area. And one day, I got surrounded by cougars and rattlesnakes on two sides of the road. I was pondering about how to escape, then I was able to pass by the one of the two groups easily. Which side do you think it was, the cougars or rattlesnakes?"
Johnny and Gyro glared at him, not amused, while you nervously glanced between the two parties.
"The answer is the rattlesnakes! Because they were asssleep, and sssnoring on the side of the road!"
No response.
"Hey, come on, it was only a joke! What did you think?"
You brought your hands up to your mouth, attempting to muffle the giggles you gave out. But, you couldn't help it. You loved puns, and for a serious and intimidating guy like Dio to make a joke like that? It only made it funnier.
Diego perked up at the noise and noticed it was coming from you. Smirking, he rode closer to you. Taking your hand in his, he pressed a quick kiss to the center of your hand.
"(Y/N) (L/N), I applaud you for what you did back there. I didn't expect you would go so far."
You couldn't breathe. Christ, your heart was beating so fast you couldn't even hear what you said next.
"Er, y-yea..." you faltered halfway through your sentence because you couldn't focus properly with his deep, blue, gorgeous eyes staring into yours.
"Diego Brando! Get away from us! We are not traveling with you!"
Dio turned his attention to the other two men as he exchanged some more words with them. He proceeded to do some weird yet fascinating tricks on his horse. Leaning over to Johnny and Gyro, you asked them a question.
"Um, is he always this... wacky, I guess? I figured he'd be more intimidating..." you asked. In reality, you actually thought it was pretty cute. You really did like silly jokes like his.
"How should I know?! Something is wrong... (Y/N), you should stay away from him. Only bad things would come from being around him," Johnny replied, sending another scowl at Diego.
"Oi, Johnny, look! He has bandages where his injuries were. Some idiot must have given him assistance or something."
You cringed at his harsh words.
"Don't jump to conclusions, Gyro. He probably just had one in his bag. Anyway, we need to stay at the village... we can't risk the horses' safety."
The three of you brought your horses to the village in the mountains. The villagers welcomed you, seemingly already knowing about the race. Johnny and Gyro rested in a small house, which was too small to hold all 3 of you.
"Don't worry about me, I'll be in the house a few down. Just holler if you need anything," you politely bowed as you led your horse to the place you'd be staying for the night.
"She seems like an ok person," Gyro commented.
"Will she be ok? She seems pretty young and defenseless... What if Dio tries to do something with her? Wait, Dio is gone! Gyro, where did he go?!"
"Who knows... stay here. I'll go search for some firewood for dinner."
You had comfortably settled into the cabin. Even though it was small, it was cozy and just enough space for you and your belongings. But... you couldn't get rid of this bad feeling in your chest. Like something terrible was going to happen. You sighed as you rubbed your temples and got up. It wouldn't hurt to barricade the place a bit, right?
"Two Time," you whispered, and immediately a ghost like figure hovered above you.
