This is a modern day idea.
Naruto lived in Tokyo until his parents were targeted by a gang. They left Tokyo to try and escape and moved into Konoha. Naruto had made lots of friends but never told them why he moved. That was until the end of the year school field trip and everyone was required to go. They were going to Tokyo. While they were there, Naruto ended up running into the gang that was after his parents. He didn't realize until too late that they followed him home. After they returned, the gang killed his parents in front of him but decided to leave him alive. Naruto then was put under his godparents care until they too were murdered by the same gang. His best friend, Sasuke, found out and told his mom. His mom then adopted Naruto, but the gang found him again.
