Basically instead of having Barry moving to Ohio because Joe wants him to because of bullying or whatever or actually having Barry and Sebastian being twins what if something else happened. What if Joe wasn't able to adopt Barry? What Barry went into the system and goes through multiple foster families that don't end well before ending up at the Smyth's? He is adopted by the Smyth's and they change his name to Sebastian Smyth. And then Glee comes and somewhere in there he is reunited with Iris and Joe.
