chapter four - the truth about caleb

Althea's point of view

For the past year since we have started our fourth year I have notice that Caleb and other classmates would randomly disappear at the ends of the month then reappear two days later, I was mainly worried about Caleb but I still had no idea why they were vanishing in the first place especially when the day they vanish is always the full moon, which is only what werewolves do, could my friends quite possibly be werewolves I think to myself.

I wanted to find out if my theory was true but was too scared to ask, Instead I got an idea tonight is the full moon so I shall keep an eye on Caleb and see if he is what I think he is for myself, it may be risky as werewolves are dangerous especially if their an alpha but I have to know if what I'm thinking is correct.

The day goes by quickly and I have kept an eye on Caleb the whole time I must say he hasn't been himself he was fairly agitated and snappy the whole day, it soon became night time as I watch Caleb from a distance as he walks towards the forbidden forest I decide to follow but keep my distance.

Caleb's point of view

Today was the full moon and as usual I was agitated and feeling uncomfortable as every so often I'd get a sting of pain, luckily I've been taking my potions so their not as bad as they usually are, but one thing that always annoys me when it is full moon is that I always end up snappy which I hate being as I always tend to snap at the ones that mean a lot to me , it's bad enough that I snapped at Althea when she offered to help with potions homework I felt so bad and annoyed at myself.

As the day goes by I get more and more agitated as I know that as soon as the moon rises I will turn into a monstrous beast which I had no choice but to change into, I usually went to the forbidden forest that way I could hurt no one but even then there have been times when a silly first year has come in I try my best to control myself and not attack but I can't always help it even then I only swipe them and scare them off or just growl that usually works.

But one thing I have noticed today is that Althea keeps looking at me and is always keeping an eye on me watch the way I act around others and that is what agitates me more as I have a funny feeling she knows and I don't want to hurt her.

It is the end of the day so I quickly eat before sneaking out to the forest , I make sure I go deep into the forest so no one can find me before the full moon begins to rise and the change begins, I let out a cry as I begin to feel my canines and claws forming before I fall to the floor howling in pain as my bones crack and my body morphed into its werewolf form, I let out a massive howl to the moon before looking around cautiously.

All of a sudden I hear a snap of a twig and move my head towards the sound growling lowly I go over to investigate but don't see anything, I huff before hearing another twig so I stalk over my body low as I watch a small little fox wonder around.

Althea point of view

I was walking around the forest in my animagus form (a fox) when I heard a loud howl my ears twitch as I cautiously go toward the noise my front paw steps on a twig and I yelp quickly hiding as I saw a large grey wolf with yellow eyes walking around I back up only to snap another twig making me yelp I hide behind a tree in hopes that the wolf didn't hear it and pant slightly I glance round the corner but don't see the wolf I sigh in relief and turn around only to see a big pair of yellow eyes staring at me, a small snarl escapes the lips of the creature and only then do I realise it's a werewolf.

I cower away with fear and whimper slightly at the wolf I make eye contact with him to get a better look before recognizing the small scar across his eyes I tilt my head and phase back making him growl even more, I put my hands up in surrender to show I meant no harm "Caleb it's me Althea" I say softly to him and watch as he stops growling and sniffs me as if he recognised me as someone he knew.

I gently raise my hand to his muzzle cautiously, he growls slightly as if afraid to hurt me I sigh "you won't hurt me" I say reassuringly as I gently lay my hand on his muzzle lightly petting him, I watch as Caleb tenses slightly before relaxing when he realises I'm not gonna hurt him, he leans into the my hand lightly making a small content noise I smile and gently pet his body his soft fur tickling my fingers, Caleb flops onto the floor laying his head against my lap cuddling me protectively making me smile.

Caleb's point of view

I watched the small fox cautiously sensing that it was a animagus I begin to snarl letting it know i was there, the small fox yelped and looks at me it seems to cower away from me at first whimpering it looked me in the eyes making me growl more the fox was looking me up and down curiously their head tilting before they phase back into a human I look at them only to recognise it was althea, Althea puts her hand up in surrender as if to tell me she meant no harm "Caleb it's me Althea  " she says in her soft angelic voice which made me purr deep inside, I stop growling and go towards her sniffing her curiously to see if she was imposter but the only thing that invaded my nostrils was apple and strawberries.

I watch as Althea gently raises her hand towards me I let out a small growl not wanting to hurt her she sighs "you won't hurt me" she says to me reassuringly as she lightly puts her hand on my muzzle slowly running her hand down it I tense slightly at first hoping that I won't hurt her before relaxing when I could sense my wolf purring contently, I begin to lean into her touch purring contently I watch as she smiles that beautiful smile she gently runs her hand over her body the feel of her fingers sending tingles across my whole body.

I decide to lay next to her and lay my head on her lap contently cuddling her protectively I nuzzle her stomach lovingly and relax falling asleep whilst she pets me that was how we stated for the rest of the night.
