Caleb and Althea had known eachother since they could remember , they had always been close and had a fair few things in common, eventually Caleb started to get feelings for Thea but never showed it as he didn't know how untill one day.......
It has been almost a week since the students of hogwarts found out about the Christmas ball happening at the end of the month and Caleb still hasn't found someone to take to the ball yet, although he has tried very hard and has asked many people out there was no luck for all they had to say was that they either had someone to go with already or have been snide towards poor Caleb by saying that they would rather eat all the bad Bertie Botts every flavour beans than go to the ball with a outcast like him, "to be honest who would" he thought with a sigh ,but he still had one last girl in mind to ask out and that's Althea Potter, "hmm Althea Potter just sound of her name makes my body tingle" he thought letting out a small purr. "Wait did I just think that about my best friend eww Caleb pull yourself together" he said to himself, Damien althea's brother and a good friend of Caleb glances over at him "you alright there mate?" He asks curiously, Caleb comes back to reality and looks at him he gives a small smile and nods "yeah I'm good just thinking" he replies, Damien rolls his eyes playfully "so you gonna ask my sister to the ball or not" he asks folding his arms and raising an eyebrow, Caleb gulps and nods "of course I am I'm not that much of a chicken" he mumbles, Damien huff then sees Althea walking by with her other brother mason he pushes Caleb towards her "well what you waiting for go on" .
Caleb gulps again and straightens his tie , he runs a hand through his hair taking a deep breath before tapping Althea on the shoulder "err excuse me Thea but can I talk to you" he murmurs going slightly red, Althea gives him a warm smile and nods " why of course what is it?" Caleb slowly begins to sweat getting nervous "err will you go to the ball with me" he mutters under his breath making it inaudible, Althea tilts her head to the side curiously not getting a word he said "I'm sorry but can you repeat that I didn't hear what you said" she asks , Caleb sighs gaining a bit more confidence "I was wondering if you would like to go to the ball with me" he says more clearly.
Althea's face fell with sympathy "I'm sorry Caleb but I've already promised my brother mason that I would go with him" she replies, Caleb's face fell as he looks down "no no it's okay I mean who would go with someone like me " he murmurs sadly before walking off.
Althea's point of view
Althea face fell with more sympathy as Caleb walks away, she felt sorry for him seeing as the whole time they had been at hogwarts he had a tough time with him being the outcast due to who his parents are, she glances at mason who gives her a small smile before she sighs and goes to the quidditch pitch to take her mind off things, she puts her gear on and does her usual routine around the pitch before going back inside over an hour later for dinner.
When Althea enters the great hall she looks along the gryffindor table for Caleb but he wasn't there, she sighs and sits with a few of her friends eating her food whilst blocking out most of what others were saying , after dinner she goes to her common room to study in hopes that Caleb would come back eventually but there was still no sign of him anywhere, she sighs going to bed hoping that he would be there the next morning.
The day of the Christmas ball
Caleb's point of view
Caleb was sat in the boys dormitory looking up at the ceiling he wanted to go to the Christmas ball but had no one to go with so he thought till a owl flew in dropping a letter, it was from his twin sister asking him if he would take her to the Christmas ball as she was scared to go with anyone else, Caleb smiles at the letter knowing he couldn't say no to his own twin, he has a quick shower before getting changed into a smart suit that his father had sent him, he gels his hair back before walking to the entrance of the great hall waiting for Isla.
During the time of waiting Caleb had seen plenty of partners go past him but had yet to see Althea and mason, Isla eventually arrives in a navy blue dress she grins up at her big brother and takes his arm leading him excitedly to the great hall.
The whole great hall was decorated beautifully with snowy Christmas trees and icicles Caleb looks round impressed by the effort the professor's had put into the whole idea and was quite shook when he saw the amount of students that even came to the ball itself, Caleb gets Isla and a few of his friends a big table nearby before getting all the drinks for them, he was busy chatting away to one of his best mates Eric when Isla taps him on the shoulder "is that Althea potter dancing with her brother oh my I must say her dress is beautiful" Isla exclaims excitedly, Caleb looks over to the dance floor and saw Althea in her elegant red dress, he examines her secretly and drools slightly until Damien hits him across the head with his hand "that's my sister your drooling over" he says Caleb goes bright red and looks down sheepishly.
Isla could tell that Caleb wanted to go over so she gives him a gentle nudge "it's okay you can go talk to her if you want" she says smiling reassuringly at her brother, Caleb smiles thanking his sister before getting up and walking to the dance floor "I hope you've saved me a dance" he whispers in her ear, Althea jumps and blushes looking at him then at mason who nods and goes over to Isla and the others , "of course I did you really think I would come to the Christmas ball without leaving at least one dance for my best friend" she says grinning, Caleb grins back gently placing a hand on her waist and taking her other hand he Waltz around the room with her, "I must say you look very radiant in that dress" Caleb teases smirking at her as she goes red in the face , "your not to bad yourself " she backfired chuckling when he blushes.
The rest of the night Althea and Caleb danced together, laughed together and even gave each other a sneaky kiss on the cheek when the Christmas ball was over, they both walked to gryffindor common room hand in hand (as friends of course) before saying goodbye to each other and going their separate ways to their dorms.
