Dinner was an awkward affair. His family's dislike for Malachai evident in their tense behavior. Kol was the worst, making thinly-veiled, disrespectful comments towards Kai, who ignored them and remained silent for Henrik's sake. Henrik, whose patience was running thin, kept shooting Kol warning glares, but the volatile Original headed him no mind. Klaus just sat there, enjoying the chaos, amused smirk on his face, while Finn and Freya looked out of place. Esther, too, was unsure of her role in her family. The animosity between her and Freya prominent. Freya never forgave her for simply giving her up and never fighting for her.
"So..." stretched Henry, dragging the piece of broccoli across the plate, gathering his family's undivided attention. "How does this spell of immortality work exactly?" asked Henry pointless question, answer to which he already knew. He was simply trying do dissolve the awkward atmosphere.
"Using her magic, Dahlia bound us together. We sleep for 100 years, only to be awake for one. During that time, the accumulated magic makes us immortal, invincible and invulnerable," explained Freya.
"Incredible," breathed out Henrik, looking at his boyfriend. "If somehow you and I found ourselves, mortal, that's one way to go about it," joked Henry causing Kai to snort, nodding rapidly in agreement.
"This is no joking matter, son!" Hotly exclaimed Esther. Henrik rolled his eyes in response, so now she decided to play protective mama-bear?
"Leave the Dahlia to me," told them, Henrik. He felt genuinely sorry for his aunt. Her own sister betrayed her, and for what? because some barbarian warrior gave her a Stockholm syndrome. Henrik never liked Esther, but after watching the Originals in his home universe, that cemented his dislike. Hundreds of years in isolation, with only Kai as a company, made him sort out his priorities. His siblings and Kai came first. Esther was not on that list, even though some part of him was fond of her, fond of the idea of having a mother again. Baby Hope had to be born, he wouldn't allow Dahlia to take her away. Niklaus didn't deserve that kind of grief. He was torn about Dahlia too. He genuinely liked her character and didn't want to kill her. She was too powerful to die. Maybe he could succeed in making her an ally. After all, all she needed was a love of a family, as cliche a that sounded.
"And how exactly are you planning to deal with Dahlia?" asked Freya, worried and skeptical.
"I will offer her, what she always wanted," told them, Henrik, causing Niklaus to protectively shield Hayley. Henrik had to admit, that gesture hurt. "Power and Immortality," clarified Henrik, shooting Nik a hurt look, who looked ashamed and apologetic. "That's what Dahlia always wanted, to have her magic and stay immortal," explained Henrik, ignoring Esther's soul-searching look.
"And you can give that to her?" asked Elijah doubtfully.
"Yes," replied Henry. "I can make it so, that she'll no longer require the baby. It's worth a try, worst-case scenario, she declines," shrugged Henrik.
